Soul Calibur Dev Prepping Something Special, Wants Your Input

Heeey, how's about a new Soul Calibur ?

It seems developer Project Soul has something big in the hopper, and they're not afraid of teasing that project. They also want your input: According to a post on their Facebook page , they're asking you about your favorite character(s):

"Calling all SoulCalibur Fans! Project Soul would like to hear your voice. They need to determine precisely who are the favorite characters of the community! Project Soul is probably preparing something huge… Stay tuned and spread the news!"

We have no idea that they're planning, but the team did say it's not related to SoulCalibur: Lost Swords , the free-to-play game that released last year. In the survey, you'll find 45 characters that have appeared in the award-winning series over the years. The survey ends on May 31 and don't forget that you've only got one vote, so make it count.

Any bets on the most popular character? I'm willing to bet Ivy wins.

Bayonetta To Sex Up Soul Calibur?

We know a new Soul Calibur entry is the works, and we also know Project Soul director Diashi Odashima spoke about adding a few guest fighters to the roster.

Because the game is still early in the development process, fans of the long-running combat franchise have plenty of suggestions. While the Mortal Kombat reboot gets Kratos, who might fit in nicely with the SC universe? Well, Platinum Games boss Hideki Kamiya has expressed interest in seeing one of his latest character creations, the leggy Bayonetta, fight in the Calibur arena. PlayStation LifeStyle has noted a few Tweets from both Kamiya and Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada, both of whom are interested in the sexy witch landing alongside the likes of Ivy, Sophitia, Taki, and others.

"How can we make it happen@Daishi_CALIBUR RT@PG_kamiya I think it must be great RT@Seeso2d I disagree with that Bayonetta will be great in SC"

So, do you think that should happen? Bayonetta has the attitude and body to fit in with the Soul Calibur ladies, and it seems plain she'd rely on blinding speed and maybe a few tricky spells. If you're not a fan of the idea, what other big-name characters might make a big splash in a fighting game? Maybe they should get risky and try someone like Ratchet (that'd be weird, though), or perhaps they could toss in the obvious, like Dante. …the old Dante, not the newly designed, heroin-addict one.

Soul Calibur Will Rise Again

It's one of those legendary fighting franchises that just won't go away. And as far as the fans are concerned, it shouldn't go away.

According to Ripten , Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada and the new SC franchise director Daishi Odashima have confirmed that a new Soul Calibur is indeed in the works. The image you see here came along with a Tweet from Odashima saying simply, "SC is back!" Harada followed a day later with the same update so we just have to assume it's true; besides, there's a link to a picture of Odashima hard at work…in his casual flowery shirt. They haven't provided us with any further details at this time, but don't forget that besides a PSP installment, the last entry came in 2008. Therefore, we're sort of assuming we're in line for Soul Calibur V , which could very well be a super huge title for 2011. SCIV was certainly a lot of fun and even though it isn't exactly authentic or as crazy challenging as something like Street Fighter IV , SC is still a blast. What began on the Dreamcast back in 1999 has become quite the battling phenomenon, so it makes perfect sense to release another title.

What with all these character crossovers, though, we'd love to see some inspired roster selections. How's about Nathan Drake? Come on, they can do heroes with guns… Or maybe Dante…or Ezio…or…Sackboy.
