ICO/SotC Collection Mysteriously Delayed Until 2012?

We waited on reporting this because we had hoped to receive some clarification. But no official reply exists yet, and we can't ignore it any longer.

For many, it's the most desired high-definition collection of the new generation; the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection features two of the most treasured titles from the PS2 era, remade in brilliant HD. They'll also boast 3D and Trophy compatibility, and we recently heard Team ICO might even toss in a demo of their latest project, The Last Guardian . But as many of you already know, major online retailers don't seem to think we're getting it any time soon: both Amazon and Buy.com first changed the launch date to "Fall 2011" and now, it sits at a disappointing and somewhat vague placeholder of "December 31, 2011." And by the way, on Amazon, The Last Guardian has the same date…and that's not good news. We have no idea what might delay the Collection for so long; most such endeavors seem to come out on time and developers haven't really complained about the upgrade process.

So we don't know what the deal is just yet, but we'll be sure to let you know. If it really has been delayed, we'd certainly like an explanation…

Ueda Shares More ICO & Shadow Of The Colossus Details

The announcement made a lot of gamers happy and now, after Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda sat down with Famitsu , we have even more details on the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection .

Firstly, Ueda confirmed he's "overlooking" both remakes and acting as a "supervisor;" he'll receive updates each week and go over them. The reason why this is significant is because the original team is not handling the upgrades we will see in the final product; such work is being handled by "an extremely excellent company," according to Ueda. However, it's good to know the main dude still has to approve what they do, regardless of how "excellent" they may be. Secondly, he clarified that both remakes will be the same as the PS2 versions, but reminded us once again that we'll get the European ending for ICO . Thirdly, the frame rate: "ICO will remain at 30 frames per second," Ueda commented. "Even if we were able to do 60 frames, we wouldn't change it." If you're wondering, The Last Guardian is also designed to run at 30FPS. But he did say that areas where the frame rate dropped in the PS2 version will be spruced up to stay at 30FPS in the remake.

Ueda then talked a bit about the addition of the 3D option- he said he was surprised at how much control one has in adjusting the 3D effects. "ICO 's 3D is good, but when Shadow of the Colossus becomes 3D, its true power really emerges," he said. Now that, we definitely believe. Lastly, one final interesting tidbit- while both remakes will be on the same Blu-Ray disc here in the US, they'll be released separately in Japan. That's about all we need to know…we just can't wait.
