Sony To Gamers: Don’t Worry About Us Missing Gamescom

There was one glaring absence during Gamescom 2015: Sony wasn't there.

The publisher has presented at most every Cologne gaming expo, so many were disappointed to hear that PlayStation wouldn't get a dedicated conference this year. However, one Sony executive says you shouldn't read too much into it.

Speaking to GamingBolt , India PlayStation boss Atindriya Bose said gamers have nothing to worry about:

"There is nothing to read into it. We had a very good E3, an excellent one in fact. This is all about how everyone phases out the announcements. So I won’t be reading too much on why we missed out on Gamescom and these are strategies that are developed by the European head and the SCEI so it’s a bit difficult to comment on that."

With Horizon: Zero Dawn , The Last Guardian , Shenmue 3 , Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and the Final Fantasy VII Remake leading the way, there's no doubt that Sony kicked some serious ass at E3. Besides, they'll be at Paris Games Week and of course, they're hosting the PlayStation Experience in December (where we hope to see new entries in the vaunted Gran Turismo and God of War franchises).

And as Sony continues to lead this generation in terms of hardware sales (by a substantial margin), they're probably not too concerned about showing up at Gamescom. They're in a good position, yes?

Sony Bows Out Of Gamescom 2015

PlayStation fans who were anxiously awaiting Sony's press conference at Gamescom 2015 will be disappointed.

For the first time since the event's inception in 2009, Sony will not host a conference at Gamescom 2015 (via GameSpot ).

Rather than coming to Gamescom, the company is planning to make a big splash at an international media briefing at Paris Games week in October. This means they'll hold off on delivering the big announcements until a little later in the year. Why, we're not really sure but we imagine Sony has its reasons. Said a company representative:

"We're delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October.

With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming."

Well, that makes a little sense. Anyway, guess we'll just have to wait until October.
