E3 2011: Sanzaru Games Handling New Sly Cooper

Everyone was wondering: how did Sucker Punch manage to work on inFamous 2 and the new Sly Cooper at the same time?

But you may have noticed that Sucker Punch's name wasn't involved in the announcement during Sony's E3 press conference. It's true that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is coming but there's a new developer at the helm- according to GamePro , it's Sanzaru Games, which handled those high-definition ports of the first three games. And you know, that Sly Collection was pretty damn solid, so at least the team has experience with the franchise now. As of now, the newest installment is slated to arrive some time next year, and platforming fans everywhere are excited. The PS2 titles were some of the best available last generation. Did you play 'em? If not, you definitely missed out.

So anyway, look for more on this one as it becomes available, and don't be too disappointed that Sucker Punch isn't directly developing it.

E3 2011: Sly Cooper Returns In Style

It was a great franchise. …wait, did I say "was?" Is, damnit, is !

It's the latest exclusive title for the PlayStation 3 and it's the return of that bad-ass blue raccoon, Sly Cooper. The game is called Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and the trailer shown at the conference is definitely encouraging. The recent Sly Cooper Collection was great for the long-time fans, and we've been hearing hints about a fourth installment ever since that assortment of remade titles arrived. Some didn't think it would happen, as developer Sucker Punch has been hard at work on inFamous 2 , which releases this week…how could the team be working on two huge projects at once? Well, obviously, they have and we can't wait for the new Sly .

And now, onwards and upwards to… Dust , the new online shooter that seems great for sci-fi aficionados.

Various Franchises Have Influenced Deus Ex Story

The Deus Ex games have always featured a heavy emphasis on storyline and for the newest entry, Eidos Montreal is taking cues from very different franchises.

Eidos Montreal narrative designer and lead writer Mary DeMarle told CVG that some games really give players a great plot and characters, but we've still got "a ways to go." Even so, they believe they've got something special in store with Human Revolution . Said DeMarle:

"I think a lot of games do aspects of story well… In this game there are definitely elements of a lot of different games that do get it, you get moments where you're like, 'wow, that's really, really cool'. One thing that is often mentioned is The Darkness, which has a moment where you're playing a scene with your girlfriend in an apartment. During that you're like 'What am I doing here? I'm watching this TV with my girlfriend, this is so different.'

The atmosphere of The Darkness might tie in with Deus Ex if you really dive into the concepts and styles, but there's another series that has had an impact on DeMarle and Co., and you might've had difficulty guessing it…

"Other references I use are the Sly Cooper games; I love how they convey Sly's personality through animations, voice and character. They all combine to create a character that is so real."

DeMarle also said that one of her favorite games was Resident Evil 4 ; while the story is "very simple," she believes it featured "the exact perfect mix and depth of story that you need for that type of game." So yeah, there are plenty of different influences involved in the creation of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution story, which ought to be a definite highlight.

Sly Cooper 4 Teaser Trailer Leaked?

We know the Sly Collection is here; it's a set of three overhauled Sly Cooper titles for the PlayStation 3. The classic PS2 platformers got a high-gloss, high-definition sheen.

But what about a sequel? Developer Sucker Punch has hinted at the possibility of Sly Cooper 4 , despite their current work on the hotly anticipated inFamous 2 . Now, thanks to YouTube user "tatermoog," it appears the first teaser trailer for the next Sly installment has been leaked. Check for yourself to see if it might be legitimate.

We seriously doubt Sony will say anything one way or the other, but Sucker Punch boss Brian Fleming has said in the past that the mischievous raccoon will likely return at some point. On top of which, you might remember movie posters scattered around Empire City teasing "Sly Cooper 4." They weren't hard to spot when playing inFamous , so perhaps this trailer is indeed the real deal.

Stay tuned for more info.

E3 2010 Rumor: Sly Cooper Collection In HD And 3D

If you remember the good ol' days of the PS2 (and I can't believe I'd have to refer to them as "old"), you'll likely be excited by this news.

It seems a new rumor has sprung up around the E3 grounds, although it's more of a prematurely confirmed announcement. As revealed by several sources, starting with a blurry 1Up image from the currently unopened PlayStation booth, the Sly Cooper Collection , redone in brilliant high-definition and with 3D support is slated to be revealed in due time. Furthermore, speculation concerning other PS2 HD remakes is starting to accumulate everywhere, which follows hot on the heels of recent Sony questionnaires and surveys. You remember those, don't you? They asked gamers what old-school PS1 and PS2 titles they'd most like to see again with a fresh glossy veneer, and it's likely that Sly Cooper was high on the list for many PlayStation fans. Now, what other classics from yesteryear should come out with a new look? The God of War Collection certainly went over well…can you imagine Final Fantasy X or Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in sharp 1080p high-definition or 3D? Nothing wrong with reliving those days in this fashion; nothing at all.

The good news is we only have to wait a few more hours before Sony announces this – which is likely – and we're hoping for more announcements of a similar nature…
