Sly Cooper Will Have A Platinum Trophy Now

Tomorrow has some PlayStation 2 classics heading our way. Sucker Punch Productions’ Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is headlining the classics launching to PS Plus Platinum members, and as it turns out, something big for Trophy hunters is happening.

With the game hitting the PlayStation Classics library, fans can expect up-rendered graphics, quality-of-life improvements, save states, and more. But, one of the things highlighted by Sucker Punch itself on X was the introduction of a Platinum Trophy.

Outside of Sly Cooper, we’re also going to see Star Wars Clone Wars and Tomb Raider: Legends as part of the trio of releases.

What do you think? Are you excited for tomorrow? Let us know below!

Here Are The PS2 Games Set To Release On PS5 This Month

While the listings are not yet live on PlayStation Network, the first wave of classic PS2 games are due to debut on PS5 this month.

The first of three PS2 games is the 2002 vehicular shooter Star Wars: The Clone Wars, not to be confused by the 2008 animated movie and series of the same name. From the creators at Pandemic Studios and LucasArts, this classic Star Wars game took place during and right after the events of the Battle of Geonosis from Attack of The Clones.

Tomb Raider: Legend is next in this lineup. The original release was from back in 2006 by Crystal Dynamics, a few years after its predecessor Angel of Darkness (via Kotaku). On a quick side note, the game was released the year before the PlayStation 3 exclusive Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, back when similarities between both games earned Uncharted the nickname Dude Raider.

Last but not least is what most PlayStation fans might be excited for the most: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus. The 2002 Sucker Punch classic was the start of one of the most acclaimed platformer franchises of the PS2 console generation.

According to Comic Book, these PS2 titles are set to release on Tuesday June 11 for PS Plus subscribers. Don’t have a subscription or prefer to buy the games individually? They will presumably be available on the PS Store and have a number of new features for PS4 and PS5 including trophy support and graphical enhancements.

Sucker Punch Squashes New Sly Cooper, Infamous Rumor

Sucker Punch

What a gut punch for franchise fans as Sucker Punch Productions squashed a rumor muddling about. The rumor, which purposed that the developer had passed off Sly Cooper to Pixelopus, a fellow PlayStation Studios developer, had been around for a while.

As reported back in March, it was alleged that new entries to both the franchises were entrusted to new developers, likely to give Sucker Punch more breathing room to continue work on other projects more attune to their new development style. Following that, a fellow insider claimed that we’d get an announcement in September. The account that heavily pushed this around, however, has since gone silent and deactivated their Twitter. This in and of itself, though, wasn’t taken as a sign of shadiness, but now, we have confirmation that there are “no plans” to return to the franchises at this moment.

Coming straight from Sucker Punch, they take time to celebrate the huge achievement of 25 years and the successful franchises they’ve formed in a blog post. Right after that, though, they give us the bad news.

“As our games continue to grow in scale and complexity, they require the full attention of our studio. With our focus on our current project, we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either. These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we’d never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development.”

Sly Cooper Announcement In-Bound For September

Sly Cooper

After quite some time, it sounds like the next Sly Cooper game could be revealed sometime in September. Reliable insider, Nick Baker shot down rumors that Sony’s working on a State of Play next month that will feature the next entry to the franchise. Instead, it’s more likely an announcement will be made sometime in the second quarter of 2022.

Fellow insider, AccountNgt, corroborated this info with his own source who told them very the same thing — an official reveal is likely to come out in September.

This same insider also said that the next entry isn’t going to be made by Sucker Punch Productions, no doubt they’re too invested in other projects to give the fans anything close to what they want, so this entry to Sly Cooper was supposedly passed down to Concrete Genie dev, Pixelopus. This was then corroborated by Baker.

AccountNgt’s same source also claims we’ll see news on a new inFAMOUS game, which hasn’t seen the light of day since 2014.

New Sly Cooper May Have New Developer

Sly Cooper

A new Sly Cooper game has been rumored for a stupidly long time while still associated with Ghost of Tsushima developer, Sucker Punch Productions both thanks to pattern and a supposed 4Chan post that’s since been deleted. Well, it sounds like that’s not the case and the franchise is heading to the hands of another developer. This new info comes from the decently reliable industry insider, Nick Baker.

It’s been stated by the insiders that PS4 exclusive Concrete Genie developer and PlayStation Studios subsidiary, Pixelopus, will be heading the charge. This would line up with the developer’s current plans including an unannounced PS5 game in association with Sony Pictures Animation. It should be noted that even Baker and his sources aren’t complete certain that the new Sly Cooper will be developed by the Cali-based subsidiary, but it wouldn’t surprise us if this does turn out to be true.

Past Characters Playable In Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time

With so many great PlayStation 3 exclusives already available, it might be easy to miss the upcoming Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time .

But we believe that'd be a colossal mistake. We learn a bit more about the return of the sneaky raccoon at the PlayStation Blog , where Sanzaru Games President Glen Egan also introduces Ninja Master Roichi Cooper.

In Thieves in Time , you will be able to travel back in time and meet your Cooper clan ancestors. But on top of that, you'll have the opportunity to play as those characters, too! Each episode in the game will boast a new member of the Cooper clan with his own "unique and powerful abilities that opens up a whole new range of gameplay in the huge environments." Time to experiment with new skills!

And the first ancestor they're displaying is Roichi Cooper, the master of the Ninja Spire Landing. He first appeared in Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus and now, you'll get a chance to test out the master's techniques. This includes the Leaping Dragon technique, which lets him "span great distances between spires." Oh, and Roichi is also the inventor of sushi, and he uses his famous restaurant as a hideout and HQ.

As time goes on, we'll hear more about Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time , and we can't wait for it to arrive. This is one franchise that definitely deserved a new title for the PS3 generation!
