PSXE Poll Update: Two Big Titles Leave Gamers Undecided

Maybe there's room for two successful games this week.

THQ and Vigil Games will release Darksiders II on Tuesday, and United Front Games and Square Enix will launch their competitor, Sleeping Dogs , on the same day. Both have fantastic potential and early feedback and reviews are pointing towards not one, but two top-quality adventures. Decisions, decisions…

So maybe that's why the PSXE readers are basically split right down the middle. Darksiders II eked out a narrow victory in this week's popularity contest, but it may as well have been equal, and let's not forget about the slim majority that isn't interested in either offering. If both games turn out great, we're hoping gamers will reward both developers and publishers involved; after all, the industry is having a pretty tough year, so put a crowbar in those wallets if there's something you want.

This week, we turn our attention to one of the most anticipated games of the generation: Grand Theft Auto V . Most still think it has a chance of launching later this year, while others think we still have a long wait. What's your take? When will it finally launch?

Sleeping Dogs Sequel Depends On Sales And Gamer Interest

Next week is pretty big, due partly to the fact that United Front Games and Square Enix will deliver the highly anticipated Sleeping Dogs .

As is typically the case, if a game does well, there's always the chance of a sequel. And that's exactly what could happen if Wei Shen's adventure earns high marks and more importantly, registers decent sales numbers. Gotta bring in the cash.

In speaking to Dealspwn , producer Dan Sochan said that from the start, Square Enix believed in the project. They are thinking about making it a franchise if things go as planned:

"I think that they've helped establish this game's identity, and helped to differentiate between the large number of other open-world games out there, so we're not just going to be buried by the large number of sequel titles coming out later this year. So there are elements they've brought in to try and ensure a long tail, that there are reasons to come back to the game even after you've finished the main story, and maybe put us in a position where we can make a sequel if the game does well."

As for the future direction of the new series, Sochan said "there are a lot of different ways" they could approach the next installment. Of course, you first have to establish a solid fan base that expresses their desire for another entry, and the producer adds that gamer feedback is crucial.

"We want to hear what gamers think, what aspects of the game they enjoyed the most, we want them to be able to go 'If you do a sequel, you should totally do this…' and so on. So of course we've considered it, and we'll have to see how Sleeping Dogs does, but this is new ground for us and so we really want to make sure that the fans are happy."

Sleeping Dogs , the game formerly called True Crime: Hong Kong , is slated to hit on Tuesday, August 14.

PSXE Poll Update: Olympics Generate Both Love And Indifference

With the Olympic Games in full swing, we just wondered how many PSXE readers were watching the competitions.

While many said they're not interested at all, the majority said they're at least going to follow the results and highlights, and there were nearly as many fanatics ("Yup, I'm watching every day!") as the totally indifferent ("No chance.")

Personally, I've always been a fan, just because I have this fascination in seeing just how far we can push the human body in a variety of disciplines. Besides, I can be a sucker for all the drama surrounding the Games…which is actually a little ironic, because I absolutely abhor reality TV shows. Well, maybe that's because the majority of the latter is trash and the Olympics are about some of the most dedicated humans alive putting everything on the line for two weeks.

Now, about games in August: We've got an interesting duel next week, as both Darksiders II and Sleeping Dogs launch on the same day (August 14). If you've been checking up on our Twitter page , you've seen me drop a few hints concerning Darksiders II … Also note PSXE interviewee, Playboy model and confirmed gamer Jo Garcia's Tweeted response: "It is insane." You trust us, right? Sleeping Dogs is perhaps the sleeper…whaddya got?

Sleeping Dogs Hard Boiled Action: Slo-Mo, Explosions Galore

Sleeping Dogs will be here soon; are you fully prepared to throw down in the dangerous streets of Hong Kong?

Featuring a blend of hand-to-hand martial arts combat, third-person shooting, driving, and what should be a compelling narrative, developer United Front Games has quite the ambitious project on tap for this month.

And if you aren't excited yet, check out this new Hard Boiled Gunplay trailer, which shows off a few of the title's more impressive features. This includes what they're calling "aggressive cover," destructible environments, high-speed shootouts, and awesome slo-mo, bullet-time-like goodness. Combine this with the recent unveiling of that impressive voice cast , and we're definitely hopeful…
