Capcom Has An Entirely New Plan For Street Fighter V DLC

Why is Capcom going a completely different route this time around?

Because they don't want to do what they did before, and many gamers will probably agree.

During an Evo 2015 panel (as summarized by GameSpot ), the company said they're taking an entirely different tact with new content released after SFV's arrival. This time, as opposed to releasing a bunch of new versions of the same game, they plan to introduce new characters individually. This means gamers will "always have something to look forward to," and we can "pick and choose" the characters we want.

They also make it plain that we won't have to pay extra for anything. All the balance and system updates will be free, while DLC characters can actually be purchased via the game's new currency system. There's Fight Money, earned by playing the game, and Zenny, which you can buy with real-world money. If you don't want to go the latter route, you can simply keep playing to earn enough Fight Money to grab the new DLC characters.

Capcom hopes this will offer "more long-term engagement" among fighting fans, and perhaps it will. As for the core roster, that will consist of 16 characters at launch. If you want to test things out, a beta is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC on July 28 and the game has a release window of spring 2016.

So, what do you think of Capcom's idea?
