Captain America Going Back In Time To Battle Nazis

Well…all right. We had too many WWII shooters but that doesn't mean developers are ready to leave the WWII theme behind.

But if you think about the history, such a project might be far more reasonable than initially believed. See, Captain America actually debuted way back in 1941, which just so happens to coincide with the second great war and in fact, the superhero was created to aid the U.S. in the war effort. And yes, that included battling Nazis. So, perhaps it isn't a stretch at all to say that a new Captain America , based in WWII, in both video game and movie form, is on the way . The movie will star Chris Evans ("Fantastic 4"), Tommy Lee Jones (take your pick), and Samuel L. Jackson (again) and it'll be entitled, "Captain America: First Avenger." The game will be called Captain America: Super Soldier , and it'll be a "third-person action adventure" set in a large castle complex and various foes from the original comic books (Iron Cross included). Gameplay will revolve around hand-to-hand combat, platforming, and that patented invincible shield.

Super Soldier is in development at Next Level (they made the new Punch-Out ) and is slated to arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP and DS some time next year.

UK Gamers Can Get Bayonetta When Purchasing Vanquish

Any 2-for-1 deal is great. It's just an added bonus and even if that bonus isn't exactly what you want, it's free .

UK gamers have a chance to take advantage of a particularly great purchase bundle option at Play.com , where they're offering a Tri-Weapon Pack for Vanquish pre-orders. They'll also toss in a copy of Platinum's previous action extravaganza, Bayonetta . For £39.99 (about $65), you can grab both games if you're a UK resident and considering they're both well worth playing, your money will be well spent. Yeah, we're just assuming Vanquish will be fun and entertaining, but the demo was very cool and the entire madcap experience ought to be satisfying. As for Bayonetta , we maintain that it's one of the greatest action games of the generation, featuring one of the deepest, most fulfilling mechanics you'll ever see. …however, as we recommended before, if you have an Xbox 360, you might want to take the 360 version of the aforementioned deal. While Vanquish is basically the same on both systems, the PS3 version of Bayonetta did suffer badly.

Just a fair warning. But we always try to keep everyone apprised of good deals, especially with the holidays right around the corner.

Second Vanquish Demo Incoming

Usually, we're satisfied with one demo. But Sega and Platinum Games wants to one-up the competition.

According to Eurogamer , a second demo for Vanquish will come to both North America and Europe on October 22, a few days after the game releases. The first demo was pretty darn entertaining ; it featured a ton of action, a massive boss fight, and gave us a chance to sample that flashy, dynamic control scheme. It's currently available on both the PSN and XBLA if you missed out. As for the second demo, it'll gives us a "part of an extra game mode and a separate entity next to the main story." Basically, it's a mode you'll have to unlock as you move through the game; in other words, you'll have to earn what you see in the demo that shows up on 10/22. October is loaded with a ton of potentially great titles and Vanquish does stand apart thanks to a relatively unique style and structure. But it will definitely help to have a second demo available to try, don't you think?

With so many games coming out, all these demos should prove to be quite beneficial. We can't afford to grab every game at $60 on the hope we'll love it…sometimes we're convinced, sometimes we're not.

New Yakuza: “Gun Shot Battle” vs. Standard TPS

Yakuza is a big deal in Japan. And the next iteration – which oddly includes zombies – made a big splash at TGS 2010 .

Only days after its official unveiling, plenty of details are starting to flood the Internet. You can find a full rundown over at Andriasang , complete with all new screenshots. Scheduled to hit Japan in April, the rush of the undead threatens Kamurocho; the city's Self Defense barrier means the rest of the country will be okay, but inside that barrier – the city itself – all hell will break loose. You saw them already in that trailer (linked above) but as a reminder, four familiar faces will be included: the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, Shun Akiyama, Goro Majima, and Ryuji Goda.

Also, Sega will be adding a "Gun Shot Battle" system, which is basically akin to a third-person shooter; each major character will have a particular weapon, too. Other weapons, including grenades, will be made available as you progress, and then there's the new "Heat Snipe" feature. It's a spin-off of the Heat Action melee skills in previous installments, and it allows for more precise targeting of offending foes.

But don't forget that Of The End will also bring back many of the familiar features fans know, like mini games, hostesses, collaborations, etc. If you want to learn more about the story behind this new Yakuza , feel free to visit the source link above. The only question is, have they completely eliminated melee combat; is this a straightforward third-person shooter now? If not, might there be a 50/50 split between the two types of action? Series director Toshihiro Nagoshi did say it'll be "different from typical zombie or panic games," and they say it's "Gun Shot Battle" rather than "TPS." Said Nagoshi:

"The gameplay is being made so that even those who aren't good at action games will be able to enjoy themselves. The hurdles will definitely not be high, so take ease."

What say the Yakuza fans?

Dreamcast Reprint Program Portal Open For Business

This is more of a reminder than anything else, just because it's so freakin' cool.

We found out some time ago that Sega would be bringing Dreamcast classics to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace and now, the endeavor has been dubbed the Dreamcast Reprint Project , with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as targeted platforms. In fact, Sonic Adventure should release to both online services on September 29, and Crazy Taxi is en route as well. Now that they've opened a full portal site, perhaps the entire thing will really take off; it already includes several titles set for future re-release under the program. The Dreamcast's timing may have been bad but there are still hordes of fans out there, and they'll definitely appreciate the reemergence of Sega classics. When we heard PS1 classics would be hitting the PSN, we were all sorts of excited; as of now, we want to see what Sega will bring…we kindly ask for Shenmue , Skies of Arcadia , Soul Calibur , one of the NFL 2K games, and maybe Seaman . Any other requests?

We'll let you know when Sega officially unveils Dreamcast games headed for the PS3/360 in the future.

Japanese Pubs Talk Yakuza’s “End,” Aya Brea

A few items of interest from Andriasang this week, starting with "The End" for Yakuza .

An ad placed on the opening page in the recent Famitsu makes one thing very clear: the city we know so well in the Yakuza series, Kamurocho, might be finished. The ad is in regards to the currently unannounced new title, and it may play into series producer Toshihori Nagoshi's recent comments about implementing a "destruction" theme of some kind. Perhaps they'll clear all this up at next month's Tokyo Game Show. Next up is the obvious Japanese fascination for Square-Enix's The 3rd Birthday and more specifically, heroine Aya Brea. She has landed on the front cover of the latest Dengeki magazine, and they even analyze the ring on her finger. Apparently, it's not a wedding ring, but it might have something to do with her lost memories and nightmares she suffers from. We also have more gameplay details for the upcoming PSP game, including two Aim Modes, hints from allies, and the different forms of "Twisted" enemies. We're definitely looking forward to this one, and we also applaud Aya's return.

As for that mysterious Yakuza ad, it may or may not indicate the end of the franchise. Perhaps it's only referring to that one city, and the theme behind the new title. We'll just have to wait and see.
