Sony’s Lost Interest In PS5 Exclusive KOTOR Remake

Knights of the Old Republic

Seems like Sony has lost interest in the PS5 exclusive Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake after such a troubled development cycle. It’s not dead yet, though.

Industry insider Jeff Grubb took to Twitter, noting that Sony wants nothing to do with the game, but it seems Saber Interactive is still very much optimistic that the remake will come. Unfortunately, it’s hard to really tell, as the developer did split from its parent company, Embracer Group, leaving behind “a previously announced AAA game based on a major license.”

The lack of interest on the Japanese console maker’s part is particularly bad, as it was the publisher of the KOTOR. It’s possible that a new publisher may be in order… or this is the end of the troubled development of the remake.

Not long ago, Saber gave confirmation that the game was still alive, so there’s still some level of hope.

What do you think? Do you think KOTOR’s actually still kicking? Let us know below!

KOTOR Remake Still In Development, Saber Interactive CEO Confirms

Fans clamoring for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake are advised to keep their eyes peeled for the upcoming title, at least, according to Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch.

During his interview with IGN, Karch spoke about the current state of the KOTOR Remake, stating that the game remains in active development and that his studio is committed to continue working on the game. The KOTOR Remake was announced three years ago in 2021, originally lead by Aspyr Media, known for past titles including the PS4 and Switch ports of Star Wars: Republic Commando (also released in 2021) and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.

The remake of the beloved 2005 Star Wars RPG has had little to no updates since the teaser’s reveal. Three years later, Saber now heads development of the KOTOR Remake, following their split from owner Embracer Group (via TechRadar) this year. There is no word for a release date as of yet, but fans can still expect the game to be available on PC and as a PS5 limited console exclusive.

After three years, are you still excited for the KOTOR Remake? Let us know below!

Survive Isla Nublar In Jurassic Park: Survival

Saber Interactive has unveiled its next game, Jurassic Park: Survivial, heading to current-gen consoles. This cinematic adaptation is poised to be a first-person action-adventure.

Return to Isla Nublar a mere day after the events of the classic 1993 flick as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who couldn’t escape the island in time. The title’s website promises a “fully realized” world for us to explore and “unforgettable encounters” with the iconic dinosaurs seen in the film franchise.

It isn’t abundantly clear what the Saber game will be exactly, but with what little we know or can infer, we think it’s safe to say that it will have a semi-open world with a lot of tense moments of evading the fierce creatures that stalk the island day and night. It could also feasibly have a crafting system, whether it’s as large as other survival games, though, remains to be seen.

Alternatively, it’s possibly just another story-focused licensed fare with a unique enough presentation.

Teardown Dev Shares Average FPS

Teardown

Developer Tuxedo Labs has revealed what frame rate console players can expect from its destructive heist simulator, Teardown, which hits current-gen consoles this year. The game will also come to PlayStation Plus as a day-one release.

In an interview with GamingBolt, CEO Marcus Dawson discussed things like changing up the UI to be more console-friendly, how it utilized DualSense features as much as it could, and the main question on peoples’ minds — frame rate. Console players will be glad to hear that the first-person romp will have very high frame rates.

It will come packaged with Performance Mode and Quality Mode, which, as expected, affects the game. Performance Mode will see 1080p resolution with an excellent average 120fps. Meanwhile, Quality Mode dips the frame rate to 60fps, but gives us 1620p. Oh, and of course, Xbox Series S owners got the short end of the stick.

We can start demolishing structures when the game launches on November 15.

What do you think? Does this get you excited to rip and tear buildings apart? Which mode are you choosing? Let us know below!

PS5 Exclusive KOTOR Remake Scrubbed From Net

Knights of the Old Republic

New concerns rose for the future of the Knights of the Old Republic remake as its trailer and announcement tweet have been scrubbed from official sources. This follows Aspyr putting the game’s development on an indefinite pause last year before then passing the project off to Saber Interactive.

As spotted by podcaster Crusader3456 on Twitter, the game’s promo stuff has been scrubbed from both Lucasfilm and Sony channels with no explanation. It wasn’t until a Sony spokesperson spoke to IGN, stating that music licenses expired, which is the cause of delisting its trailer and announcement post.

We don’t blame people for worrying about this PS5 exclusive — both Aspyr and Saber are under Embracer Group, which has been closing studios, canceling games, potentially selling assets, and laying off tons of people as it goes under a massive restructure.

What do you think? Do you believe the KOTOR remake will ever see the light of day? Let us know below!

Battle: Los Angeles: “Frantic FPS” In Digital Form

You've probably seen the movie trailer, but you likely didn't know about the game…

"Battle: Los Angeles" launches in theaters on March 11 and today, Konami and Saber Interactive have announced a first-person shooter to go along with the film; it'll be available on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Windows PC via Steam. Players will assume the role of Corporal Lee Imlay and team up with other characters from the film in an effort to defend LA from "unknown forces." Said Careen Yapp, Vice President of Acquisitions and Franchise Development for Konami Digital Entertainment:

"Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. jumped at the opportunity to team up with Columbia Pictures and publish the Battle: Los Angeles video game. We love the movie and it was a great experience working with Saber – there were some great ideas about how to expand the story into a game. It's a great chance for gamers and moviegoers to play out the world of the film."

Powered by the Saber 3D Engine, Battle: Los Angeles is described as a "high-end fast and frantic first-person shooter" that offers an intense single player campaign. The campaign will mirror the feature film and we'll be able to snag all sorts of different weapons, including the assault rifle, sniper rifle and rocket launcher. Saber is also tossing in destructible environments by utilizing the Havok Destruction Module: "destroy scaffolding structures, vehicles and overpasses to eliminate enemy forces."

We'll even get bonus unlockable content, trophy support and 5.1 surround sound. It isn't the first time a moderately sized FPS has arrived in digital form; you might remember Battlefield 1943 . That one was multiplayer-oriented, though; we imagine Battle: Los Angeles will be closer to Blacklight: Tango Down …we just hope Saber's effort is a little better.
