Rock Band 4 Can Now Import All 83 Rock Band 3 Songs

It took a little time but Rock Band 4 has finally become backwards compatible.

Well, after a fashion. Nearly two months after the new entry arrived, developer Harmonix has announced that you can import the full Rock Band 3 soundtrack, much to the delight of veteran followers.

The export feature is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, but remember that you can only import songs within the same console family; i.e., PS3 to PS4 and Xbox 360 to Xbox One. It's also only currently in place for North American gamers, as our European friends will have to wait until next week. Finally, there is a cost associated with the transfer: To get all 83 songs from Rock Band 3 , it'll cost you $15 and it has to be done via Rock Band 4 's in-game store.

You can find the exact instructions at Harmonix's website if you need help, and you can also find an updated list of all songs that can be imported into Rock Band 4 . Oh, and you have to be a verified owner of Rock Band 3 to import that soundtrack.

We also saw Guitar Hero Live this holiday season; it remains to be seen which title won the next-gen battle of the bands .

Whoa, Rock Band 4 Will Deliver An “Epic, Branching Story”

We still haven't seen the game in action yet, but developer Harmonix has given us a better idea of what to expect.

In speaking to IGN , designer Alli Thresher says the upcoming Rock Band 4 will boast an "epic, branching story that will play out differently based on your actions."

Betcha didn't expect that, huh? Thresher says players start in their hometown, on a quest to become the biggest band in the world. You'll even make decisions that will have "significant consequences" for the future of the group. Does this mean if you dive into the drug world you'll just be a flash in the pan? And what about sticking to your "artistic integrity?" Said Thresher:

"So, you might take a gig where you decide you are the spokesperson for off-brand salted meats and start your every gig by warming up the crowd telling them how much you like salted meats. And the crowd is not into it and booing and stuff, and you have to play really, really well to get them over it."

But if you don't want corporate sponsors, you can "couch surf around the country, use social media to meet people, and sleep on their floors." Oh, classy. But I guess it qualifies as "rock and roll," right?

This could be a very interesting music game.

Guitar Hero Live vs. Rock Band 4: Which Wins This Time?

Looks like it's time to rekindle the old music rivalry.

It'll be Guitar Hero Live vs. Rock Band 4 and even though we don't have a ton of details on the latter, the recent unveiling of the former seems promising.

But I suppose the real question is this: Do we really care? Yeah, I know this particular industry was worth a couple billion dollars during its heyday in the last generation, but haven't we moved past it? Will this new "war" really be a huge draw in terms of press coverage and community discussion? As both franchises will release re-imagined iterations, I'm sure that's worthy of at least some discussion.

I'm just not sensing the a rejuvenation of interest. Doesn't seem like everyone is jumping up at down at the prospect of seeing these two franchises return. I wonder…once a fad dies, it's difficult to resurrect it. Sometimes, you have to wait a long time; perhaps even a few decades, as is often the case in fashion. It wasn't that long ago that Activision burned us all out on a hundred Guitar Hero entries. Are we really ready for another go-around?
