Resident Evil HD Tops 1 Million, Breaks First-Day Records

If you picked up the Resident Evil HD Remake , you were hardly the only one.

Publisher Capcom has announced that the latest update of the original horror classic has sold over 1 million units worldwide. It retails for only $20 (which probably helps), and it's also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The game in question also became the "biggest-selling day-one digital title" on the PlayStation Network. Capcom says this counts first-day sales in both North America and Europe. Resident Evil HD Remake is also the fastest-selling digital title in company history, and the latest iteration has pushed the entire franchise to over 65 million lifetime copies. That's pretty darn impressive.

Resident Evil will always be legendary. But what will Capcom do with the series as it moves forward…?

Pre-Order Resident Evil HD Remake For Cross Buy Support

So, here's an interesting situation.

Capcom and Sony have confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil HD Remake will support Cross Buy on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3…but only if you live in North America and pre-order the two games from the PlayStation Network.

Pre-ordering nets you both versions (one for free, with the Cross Buy deal) and an exclusive theme, as Capcom revealed on its blog . Each version will retail for $20 so two games for the price of one isn't bad at all. This is a high-def upgrade of the 2002 REMake that released for GameCube, which was also a remake of the original 1996 horror classic.

The new effort will boast 1080p visuals on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and it'll release on January 20, 2015.
