If you've been waiting to experience the thrills and chills on the go, we've got a date for you.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , the PlayStation Vita iteration of Resident Evil Revelations 2 will land in North America on August 18. It will be available digitally on the PlayStation Store for $39.99.

This portable port will combine all four main chapters in the episodic series, and will also offer horror fans some extra content. That extra content comes in the form of two brand new episodes; "The Struggle" and "Little Miss," which will focus on characters Moira and Natalia. These new chapters are described as playing a "critical role in understanding these characters and how they play into the main campaign."

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Coming To Vita “This Summer”

If you haven't played Resident Evil Revelations 2 just yet, maybe you're waiting for the PlayStation Vita version.

If so, you'll be interested in the status update posted over at the PlayStation Blog .

The final episode was just released on PS4 and PS3 and now the team if finalizing the episodic game's transition to Sony's portable. With the help of Frima Studio, who is "knee-deep in production," they're closer to securing the Vita-specific gameplay and features. The upcoming handheld iteration will feature all four episodes, including any downloadable content released so far. We'll get single-player Raid Mode at launch, too, but online co-op Raid Mode and the ad-hoc modes "will most likely come post-launch via an update."

One of the unique features will be gyroscopic targeting, which sounds like a nifty idea. There's no concrete release date just yet, but they did give us a window: "This summer." And yes, it sounds like it'll only be available digitally. Oh well.

Revelations 2 Supports Cross Buy If You Choose Digital

Cross-Buy is a good thing.

There's just one catch: If you wish to enable the Cross-Buy incentive for Resident Evil: Revelations 2 , you have to pre-order the $25 digital version.

This will guarantee that you get both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the episodic series. And Episode 1 drops next week so you better act quickly. Additionally, you will have to wait: As publisher Capcom said on its blog :

"While this feature won't be active on launch day, those who preorder will be entitled to both versions of the game shortly after."

This means you won't be able to access both versions immediately out of the gate, when the title launches on February 24. I'm still not sure what the benefit is of having two versions of a game, especially when one is obviously going to be better than another, but whatever.

Revelations 2 Microtransactions Explained

Capcom has been on the wrong end of microtransaction debates before.

This time, though, they're prepared with an explanation. Gamers were a little worried about how microtransactions will be implemented in the upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and thankfully, the publisher has clarified things with Kotaku .

First and foremost, it's important to understand that microtransactions will be restricted to the game's Raid Mode. The campaign won't be affected. Furthermore, the in-game currency ("life cyrstals") can be obtained via regular gameplay or forking over real money:

"Players can use 'life crystals' when playing through Raid mode in Revelations 2. The crystals essentially act as continues (re-spawns) in Raid mode when players die. Blue life crystals can be earned through playing daily missions and red life crystals can be bought.

The two crystals act the same, but there's an option to buy if players run out of blue (earned) crystals or don't want to spend the time earning them. If players have both blue and red crystals, the game will prioritize the blue crystals over the red ones. Again, these are only used in Raid mode and not in the main campaign. "

This was all in response to the suspicion that Capcom would charge you real cash to re-spawn after death. Obviously, that isn't true. As for the episodic series in question, each episode will retail for $6 (they roll out next month), but players can pick them all up for $25. They can also wait for the $40 retail disc, which will arrive in March and feature a few bonus goodies.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Scheduled For Episodic Release

So, do you like the episodic idea?

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Revelations 2 , in development for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360, will be released in episodic installments, akin to the super popular Walking Dead series.

The original Revelations told its story via TV-like episodes, so this is an extension of that approach. The sequel is comprised of four main chapters and they'll be released as individual episodes over the course of four weeks; one each week. The episodes will go for $6 each or you can purchase the Complete Season for $25, which doesn't offer any savings, obviously, but will net you some "additional game content."

After the episodes are released digitally, Capcom will launch a disc-based version of the game. This will retail for $40 but it'll boast "further gameplay content" in addition to the additional stuff included with the Complete Season. You up for it?

Revelations 2 Info: Playable Characters, Story, Co-Op

Resident Evil Revelations 2 will feature a returning popular character and a new face.

According to the November 2014 issue of Gamemaster magazine (as cited by Push-Start-Play ), players will assume the roles of series mainstay Claire Redfield and newcomer Moira Burton, the daughter of Barry Burton.

The information comes courtesy of Revelations 2 producer Michiteru Okabe, and we also learn that the story will be set between RE6 and RE6. Okabe emphasized that the gameplay will be "much more survival/horror-oriented," which is definitely good news. The campaign will support single-player and co-op play but interestingly, only Claire's death will result in a Game Over screen. See, she's all about combat while Moira is more about support, as she'll use a flashlight, heal, and offer "general support."

The anticipated follow-up effort is headed to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and all versions should run at 1080p and 60 frames per second.
