Psychonauts 2 Hits Crowdfunding Goal With 5 Days To Spare

It was the largest crowdfunding goal for a video game ever, but Double Fine hit it .

The Tim Schafer-led team has managed to fully fund the highly anticipated sequel, Psychonauts 2 , with only five days left in the campaign.

The project has now earned $3,338,985, which tops the $3.3 million mark and makes this one of the top 10 most successful crowdfunded games of all time. It's also important to note that a fair percentage of the money raised is actually a result of investors; it's not all donations. This means those who have invested will actually own a small piece of the project and as Fig CEO Justin Bailey said, it makes this a "true community experience."

I so can't wait for this one. Psychonauts remains one of my favorite games of all time and I'm expecting nothing less than brilliance from Schafer and Co. But I and everyone else will have to be patient; it won't be done until 2018.

Psychonauts 2 Crowdfunding Campaign Nearing Its Goal

When the crowdfunding campaign for the long-awaited Psychonauts sequel was confirmed, the project earned over $1 million in less than 24 hours.

Now, with over two weeks left, the Fig project is nearing its minimum goal of $3.3 million.

The campaign ends on January 12, 2016 and it has now dragged in over $3 million, a fact that Double Fine boss Tim Schafer is plenty pleased about . At the time of this writing, 18,087 backers have contributed a grand total of $3,016,822, which means the game is 91 percent funded. A little over half of that money comes from investments; don't forget that unlike Kickstarter, fans can have a monetary stake in the product.

However, the team is going to need a lot more than $3.3 million. Previous estimates hint at a possible need for $10 million, but Double Fine will be "putting up a significant portion" of the necessary funds, and there's also talk of an unspecified "external partner." Well, whatever it takes; this sequel absolutely must happen!

We'll still have to wait until 2018, when the game will finally be ready for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC but hey, we've waited all this time, haven't we? We can wait a few years more.
