Sony Stopping PSN Support For PSP

If you still play the PSP online, we've got some bad news.

Sony has announced that it will cease PlayStation Network support for the original PSP on September 15. That's next week, you know.

This will occur via server switch-off as opposed to a firmware release, so there's no way for anyone to avoid the end. This is a big step toward finishing off Sony's first handheld gaming portable, as it nears the end of its relatively impressive nine-year run. The PSP Go basically failed and unfortunately, the Vita isn't faring much better these days, but here's hoping Sony sticks with the latter.

As for the news in question, it means the PSP simply won't work with anything involving the PSN. Of course, gamers can just log into the SEN web store and download games to the PSP; nothin' stopping them from doing that. But as far as playing games online, well…that's over.
