Source: Sony Sells Over 320,000 PS4 Units In Two Days

The PlayStation 4 has launched in Japan, and everyone is wondering if the machine is flying off store shelves.

You can decide for yourself: According to a recent Famitsu report (as translated by Siliconera ), Sony sold 322,083 systems during the opening weekend in Japan.

Notably, this outstrips the Wii U (which sold 308,570 units during its launch weekend), and it easily trumps the PlayStation 3, which only managed to sell 88,443 in that same time period. As for how this launch compared to the PS2…well, the PS2 is just unbeatable in so many ways; that sucker sold a whopping 630,552 units in its first two days on the Japanese market back in 2000. Sony says it's not impossible for the PS4 to match the PS2's amazing performance but man, it seems unlikely.

The industry has changed so much and the situation is so different. Don't forget that the PS2 had no Xbox with which to contend when it launched; Microsoft's console didn't launch until a year later. …and when it did, nobody cared in Japan, anyway.
