Only Free DLC For Need For Speed, No Paid Extra Content

Not a fan of paid downloadable content? Developer Ghost Games understands.

During a recent Vice interview , creative director Craig Sullivan revealed that his team has no plans to release any paid DLC or microtransactions for the recently released Need for Speed reboot.

Sullivan said they're listening to what the fans want and nobody is saying, "Can you build a load of stuff and charge us for it?" And the developers probably aren't going to change their minds in the future, either:

" I know some people when we do press like this, they say, 'Yeah, but I'm sure it'll all change in a week or two, or six months.' It's not going to. The plan is that there are no transactions in this game. All of the content that we're going to give you–a pretty substantial amount in the future, starting pretty soon–is going to be free. That's what players deserve. "

Sullivan admitted that he can't say with 100 percent certainty that no paid extra content will ever arrive for the game. However, he can say, "hand on heart," that there are absolutely no plans in the works right now for paid DLC or microtransactions. And for those who hate that kind of thing, that's about all you can ask for, right? As for the studio's current plans:

"We're going to give you everything for free. I've seen the plans for what's going to happen over the next few weeks and months–there's nothing in there, by which I mean, we don't even have the ability to charge you in the game. There's no store to speak of."

Need for Speed just launched this week for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The developer says the beta test really helped improve the game and previously, Ghost Games said their goal was to "modernize" the NFS experience .

Dev On Need For Speed Longevity: ” I Want To Modernize”

Lots of developers are starting to rebel against the tide of constant sequels. In the age of DLC, that means creating a single entity that can be built upon for a long period of time.

And while it's certain we'll see more entries in the iconic racing franchise, publisher Electronic Arts still wants the upcoming Need for Speed reboot to be attractive for quite a while. So- lots of extra content.

In speaking to Videogamer , Ghost Games executive producer Marcus Nilsson says they have "pretty significant" plans for DLC long after the new NFS is on store shelves:

"I want Need for Speed to modernize. I want Need for Speed to not feel like a November 3 title every year. I want it to be a game that people embrace, they keep it for longer and play it for longer, and that's something that Need for Speed needs to achieve because it's not happening right now."

Nilsson added that the team is looking for "other ways" to expand beyond the standard car packs. He wants to continually "refresh and renew" content for fans, rather than simply adding a few pieces of expected items here and there. Hey, whatever keeps the fans happy, right?

Previously, the developer explained why this year's Need for Speed , which launches on November 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, is always online .
