Mortal Kombat Strikes Gold

Even the most faithful are a little antsy until a game reaches Gold status; the "no turning back" plateau that says, "yep, it's definitely coming."

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have announced that Mortal Kombat has officially gone gold for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will launch on April 19 in North America and April 21 in the UK; feel free to check our news archives for all relevant information. This reboot marks a "triumphant return to the series' mature presentation and a reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic." Featuring an all-new graphics engine, the Fatality and character-specific stages have returned, along with new features like tag team, a deep Story mode, and stereoscopic 3D (exclusive to the PS3). Then there's the Challenge Tower, which is 300 steps long and will tax your abilities to the limit! MK fans have been waiting for such a game; it pays homage to the good ol' days while being a definite upgrade at the same time.

Come on; April isn't exactly jammed with games…this one should be near the top of your priority list.

Mortal Kombat: Roster And Trophies

The hotly anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot isn't far off, and we're willing to bet the fighting followers are getting antsy.

Well, it seems we may have the full roster list along with all the Trophies/Achievements. Provided you don't mind a little spoiler or two (it's a fighting game; let's not get our panties in a twist), you should head on over to ModernGames 101 to check out the info:

As you can see, all your favorites are here, including Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Jax, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kano, Cyrax, Kitano and more, and as for the "suspected characters," they list Kabal, Smoke, Human Sektor, and Scarlet. The latter isn't actually a rumor; game producer Han Lo already confirmed her existence as a downloadable character. Getting all the Trophies seems borderline impossible unless you spend the next three months playing…there's "The Krypt Keeper (Unlock 100% of the Krypt), "Arcade Champion" (Complete Arcade Ladder with All Fighters), "There Will Be Blood" (Spill 10,000 Pints of Blood), and "You've Got Style!" (Unlock All Alternate Costumes), just to name a few.

So who's ready for this bad boy? MK has never looked better and provided the gameplay is sound, we can't imagine a poor product.

Mortal Kombat Footage: Johnny Cage Cops An Attitude

It's good to see MK fighters with a little personality, don't you think?

Many are sorta faceless but Johnny Cage has always been the rock star of the twisted Mortal Kombat family. And in this latest bit of gameplay footage, we watch as the cocky, sunglasses-wearing fighter does anything necessary to emerge victorious. You remember that special little move of his, don't you…?
