Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition Dated

If you're looking for the ultimate MK experience, you need the Komplete Edition.

It was unveiled later last year and now we have a launch date. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition will release on March 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Featuring all the currently released downloadable content, including new characters like Rain, Skarlet, Kenshi, and everyone's favorite nightmare stalker, Freddy Krueger, this is a very complete package. There will also be 15 Klassic Skins and three Klassic Fatalities; one each for Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile. Personally, I've always been partial to Kung Lao's fatalities. I also remember putting that code into Mortal Kombat Trilogy so you could get one-button fatalities. …the only way I could see 'em all in one afternoon.

Mortal Kombat was a very successful reboot of a floundering franchise; it returned to the 2D fighting plane and introduced several new gameplay features. The brutality was there, the combat was crisp and rewarding, and overall, it satisfied a great many long-time MK fans. They all went- "Yep, this is the next-gen version of what I played in the arcades all those years ago. …exactly what I wanted."

NetherRealm: Don’t Worry, Another MK Is On The Way

During the Spike TV Video Game Awards, NetherRealm boss Ed Boon announced that his team was currently cranking on a project…and it wasn't called "Mortal Kombat."

Well, after the critical and financial success of this year's reboot , a lot of fighting fans were disappointed. They thought the studio was leaving MK behind and once again, an iconic franchise would go dormant.

But there's no need to cry yourselves to sleep. Boon tossed up a clarification on his Twitter page , much to the relief of all those fans threatening to slit their wrists:

"NetherRealm has a number of projects in the works. Not JUST Mortal Kombat. :)"

A little later, he responded directly to a fan by saying- "NetherRealm is working on MK and non-MK games!" It seems these guys have a few tricks up their sleeve, as Batman: Arkham City Lockdown is only the first surprise ont he list. As to the idea of a new MK powered by the Unreal Engine, Boon would only reply- "Hmmm…" See, Lockdown (for iOS) uses the Unreal Engine; that's why the question arose.

Wow, there are a lot of studios trying new things these days, aren't there? This industry sure feels healthy, doesn't it?

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition Confirmed For February?

Sometimes, rating boards for video games are great sources.

As noted by CVG , it seems a special edition of the highly popular Mortal Kombat reboot is in the works.

The BBFC (UK classification board for games) has rated the "Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition" and based on the evidence, it's set to release on February 17. Unsurprisingly, the collection earned an 18-rating. The game sold three million copies when it launched earlier this year and if we had to guess, we'd say this Kollection will probably feature all the downloadable content to date, plus a few extra features. You know, the standard stuff we see in re-releases of popular titles to entice those who missed out the first time.

Even though I'm not a fighting fan, I too reveled in the successful revival of the MK franchise. It was just great fun and reminded me of the good ol' days in the arcade…when I watched – rather than played – other people play MK. Just wasn't my thing. 😉

Mortal Kombat Movie To Offer “More Realistic Characters”

Well, it was probably inevitable.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is teaming up with Warner's New Line Cinema to deliver another Mortal Kombat movie, which is slated to hit theaters some time in 2013. You up for it?

Warner Bros. acquired MK maker Midway Games in 2009; the sinking developer was going bankrupt and WB picked 'em up for $49 million. This past April, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released the Mortal Kombat reboot, which was a hit with both reviewers and gamers, ultimately selling over 3 million copies. The promotional Internet series "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" certainly helped; it was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who earned attention by producing a short film based on MK in 2010. The film convinced Warner to give him a shot at another project.

New Line Cinema president Toby Emmerich said their decision to hire Tancharoen was due entirely to his online work.

"The new game and the online shorts prompted us to consider a reboot of a brand we hadn’t been actively thinking about."

The new movie will be made for under $100 million and "will offer a more realistic take on the Mortal Kombat characters." It should also coincide with the release of the next MK game; the new title and film may be available in a dual Blu-Ray/DVD package. …we'll be interested to see how the director finds the "realism" in this franchise.

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection Set To Blast From The Past

The Mortal Kombat reboot turned out wonderfully but you know, sometimes we just get the hankering for some true old-school fun.

And if you want a walk down memory lane (a lane admittedly lined with blood spatters), you should check out the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection . Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that the assembly of fighting classics will hit the PlayStation Network in North America on August 30. It'll launch worldwide on the PSN, PC, and on the Xbox Live service the following day.

This collection features the original arcade trilogy: Mortal Kombat , Mortal Kombat 2 , and Mortal Kombat 3 . It'll be available for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points and it's bound to scratch that golden age arcade itch. The game will also feature online matches, leaderboards, trophies/achievements, and of course, the original arcade ladder. Yeah, we can once again relive the cheapness of Shao Khan and the difficulty of those last few matches on the ladder…all without a pile of quarters.

Mortal Kombat Nears 3 Million, Pays For Its Own Assets

Everyone was a little worried when Midway liquidated all its assets last year. What would happen to the legendary Mortal Kombat ?

Well, things have gone well for Warner Bros. Interactive after acquiring the MK name. WB Interactive President Martin Tremblay told MCV that the recently released Mortal Kombat reboot is closing in on 3 million units sold worldwide. The best part is that this great showing has almost paid for all the assets acquired from Midway, and that's what you call a solid piece of business. Fighters aren't as popular as they used to be; Super Street Fighter IV has sold 1.6 million to date and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds has reached 2 million. Those have been out longer than MK and yet, the dark, brutal title has passed 'em both. It just proves that the combination of name-brand recognition and great review scores results in good things.

And by the way, if you've got MK at home, you should seriously consider snagging Freddy Krueger. He's the new DLC for the game…gotta love that addition. Totally classic.
