Mortal Kombat 11 DLC Support Halted As Dev Moves Onto New Project

Mortal Kombat 11

NetherRealm Studios is looking past Mortal Kombat 11 (read our MK 11 Ultimate Edition review) as DLC support halts. The developer announced the news on Friday that after two years of working on new content for the community, the studio is taking a step away from MK11 to work on their next project.

The Chicago-based developer hasn’t revealed what this new project is just yet. So, we don’t know if they’re working on the next Mortal Kombat, Injustice, or perhaps a whole new (probably fighting game-related) IP.

Whatever the case is, Mortal Kombat 11 had a good run, topping itself off at selling over eight million units. Its slew of DLC characters included likes of RoboCop, The Joker, Terminator’s T-800, Spawn, and more.

What do you think? Are you disappointed to see the game halt having new characters? Tell us below!

Mortal Kombat 11 Purposefully Delayed Adding Mileena To “Create An Appreciation”

Mortal Kombat 11

For years, fans have been bombarding NeatherRealm Studios, begging them to add Mileena into Mortal Kombat 11. This all started basically since the game launched early last year. To the dismay of many, series creator Ed Boon shot down the idea, claiming it would never happen.

That is until Mileena’s voice actress broke the news and fans wept tears of joy. According to an interview during Comic-Con, the studio hit the pause button on adding Mileena to “create an appreciation” and that he had no idea people felt this strongly.

“We hit pause on Mileena just to create an appreciation, but we had no idea it would be this intense. For years we were getting pounded by messages of ‘I want to see Mileena again,’ and we wanted to stretch that out.”

Mileena, Rain, and Rambo will be headlining Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack 2, which is included in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate if you don’t have the game already. Ultimate will launch on November 19.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Mileena come back to the famous fighting franchise? Tell us below!

The deal, which is valid until August 5, comes only two months after the Aftermath DLC launched in May. The DLC includes a whole new storyline and characters to play around with. [RUMOR] NetherRealm Studios Employee Refutes Major Rumors

NetherRealm Studios

A recent leak has kind of debunked a handful of rumors surrounding the future of NetherRealm Studios. First and foremost, supposedly this employee, which took to Reddit anonymously, denied a few characters rumored to appear in Mortal Kombat 11. These characters were Doom Slayer, John Wick, Michael Myers, and Deathstroke.

The anonymous employee also confirmed there will be a Kombat Pack 3 including three male characters and one female guest character. He also added there aren’t any plans for Mileena as a playable character despite the public outcry.

On top of squandering Mortal Kombat 11 rumors, the supposed NetherRealm Studios employee refuted that Injustice 3 is their next game. It should be noted, this is solely a rumor and – even though an image was sent to one of the subreddit’s mods to verify the pack claim – it’s still deemed an unverified rumor.

What do you think? Do you believe this rumor? Tell us below!

NetherRealm Studios Has “Other Stuff In The Oven”

NetherRealm Studios

As Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest continues to rage on, fans may finally see a different side of NetherRealm Studios in the future. Fans all know the developer, led by Ed Boon, to be in charge of the ever-releasing Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises, but it seems as though they’re ready to branch off and do other projects, too. During a Summer Game Fest Q&A, the NetherRealm creative director hinted that they have other plans in mind.

“Mortal Kombat has become like a staple thing, almost Marvel-like. You don’t expect the last Marvel movie to ever come out, they’re just gonna keep coming. Even though we’ve been able to scratch other itches, you know doing Injustice games and stuff, and we have other stuff in the oven, but it’s always nice to do the Mortal Kombat games.”

What’s Next For NetherRealm Studios?

For quite a while, fans were questioning what it was they were going to release next. The inclusion of The Joker seemed to almost set-in-stone the idea of an Injustice 3. Heck, even Boon joked about it, calling it “coincidental,” even though fans are fairly sure there’s something up his sleeve.

That said, it’s entirely possible we may not see a fighting game at all. While their forte has been dominated by fighting games with the MK franchise at the forefront, it’s hard to say with their comments this time around. It’s clear they still love the franchise and know how much it means to its fans and will continue to support it. That said, it can only go so far, and sometimes they need a break, which was what the Injustice franchise turned into.

NetherRealm Studios was also in charge of the Batman Arkham line of apps. Could we be seeing another fighting game coming our way or are they going to be throwing fans a curveball with a different genre?

What do you think? What do you hope they’ll release in the future? Tell us below!

More Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Gameplay To Come

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath

It appears NetherRealm Studios has heard your call. It’s been a while since Mortal Kombat 11 launched back in March 2019. With time comes DLC and with new fighters out to purchase, they’re going a step further with a story expansion. Their latest DLC, Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, may have gameplay releasing next week.

On Twitter, fans have been craving a bit more gameplay for this revealed DLC, which is going to add more story, playable characters, and skins. With so many seeking any gameplay they can, it’d be foolish of NetherRealm to leave everyone high and dry. Doubly so with the release so close.

Aftermath puts you in the shoes of Liu Kang as he brings together foes and allies to save both worlds. This DLC is going to tack on three new playable characters: Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop.

Is there anything for non-Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath players?

Have you been missing those classic stage fatalities? Those bizarre Friendships? NetherRealm hasn’t forgotten about its existing MK base. Alongside the DLC coming out May 28, a new content update is looking to add the cutesy friendships back into the franchise – you know, in case you’re bored of ripping your opponent limb from limb and showing them their spinal cord. The inclusion of classic stages is also going to be dropped in for those wanting a taste of the good old days.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection can be pre-ordered right now for $59.99. This purchase comes packed with all the current DLC fighters and content. Needless to say, it’s soured some who already got onboard the MK11 train before this deal. If you already have the game, you can pre-order just the DLC for $39.99 or the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath + Kombat Pack Bundle for $49.99.

Which are you picking? Do you plan on making a return?
