Kojima Teases Central Theme Of MGSV

Hideo Kojima has a question to ask you. It's probably impossible to answer; it's just a really frustrating tease.

And he's pretty good at teasing. We'll learn a lot more about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain next week at E3 but in fact, we'll get more info on June 6. That's well before Sony's press conference, by the way…and just a few days away besides.

A new Tweet from the MGS guru has gotten people talking:

"Question Gene(MGS1)→Meme(MGS2)→Scene(MGS3)→Sense(MGS4)→Peace(MGS PW)→???e(MGSV) Answer will be revealed in Pre-E3 on 6/6."

Obviously, he's talking about the underlying theme that we'll find in MGSV. He also reminds us of the themes of past entries:

"Theme of PW was PEACE. Paz/Kazu (both means peace) starred & was about deterrence as one of the method of keep peace in human society…(cont) The ending of PW was he/she's chosen deterrence in order to keep his/her mother-base. Theme of V is "???e". 2 characters in Kanji."

And:

"PW was about deterrence, & peace as theme. Story of MGS3 was about Cold War, &SCENE as theme. In MGSV will be about "??" & "???e" as theme."

Anybody have any grand ideas? We just want to see as much of MGSV as Kojima is willing to bring to E3. Chances are, we'll be far more interested in seeing some gameplay but hey, that theme is always central to each MGS story, so… Yeah, it's pretty important.

Hayter: “I Will Miss This Job, And This Character, Very Much”

As most of you know by now, the voice of Snake in the legendary Metal Gear Solid franchise won't be returning for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain , a fact many long-time followers have found difficult to swallow.

Series creator Hideo Kojima was quoted as saying they wanted to make "a new type of Metal Gear game," but that didn't appease the fans. Now, the actor himself, David Hayter, has elaborated on the unfortunate situation at his Twitter page .

In the summary, Hayter explains that when he heard Konami was putting together recording sessions for the new MGS entry, he hadn't heard from the publisher. So he contacted them, "got together for lunch," and he was informed that they wouldn't need him on this game. They didn't provide an explanation as to why. Hayter has been playing the role of Snake for nearly 15 years and if he had his way, he'd "do this role forever." And to hear another actor voice Snake actually makes him "a little ill."

Hayter does understand that Konami and Kojima have the final call and he admits that this is fair. He also adds that he isn't "lacking for employment on any level." Still, his final words are kinda heartbreaking for ardent MGS followers, as they bring back a rush of memories:

"But I didn’t want anybody to think that I was intentionally abandoning them. And know that I will miss this job, and this character, very much."

Just too bad, really.

Ground Zeroes Is A Prologue To MGSV: The Phantom Pain

'sigh' Now we're all confused.

When Hideo Kojima officially announced Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain yesterday, it was assumed and widely reported that this was the combination of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain , which had previously been teased.

But now, a Konami representative has informed Siliconera that in fact, MGSV and Ground Zeroes are two separate games:

"Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games. Ground Zeroes will actually be a prologue to The Phantom Pain, and that's all we can share at this time."

We know The Phantom Pain is coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at an unspecified time, but we have no idea where Ground Zeroes is headed. If it's a prequel, will it be on the same platforms? And if so, how much before The Phantom Pain will it release? Konami said they couldn't talk about whether or not the two games will be bundled together.

Well, this adds another dimension to things, doesn't it?
