Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Just Got Much More Attractive

If you missed out on the flashy, challenging action game that was Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance , now's the time to remedy that mistake.

Konami has announced that the acclaimed action title from Platinum Games has dropped in price; it's now available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for only $29.99. But that's not the only good news.

Included with that very reasonable price tag is extra content, as the Jetstream and Blade Wolf downloadable content will be featured. The publisher didn't mention if the content would be included on the disc, or if we'd have to grab it digitally. But either way, it makes the game that much more appealing, yes? The Jetstream DLC boasts Samuel Rodriguez as a playable character, and the Blade Wolf DLC features a side story where players assume the role of LQ-84i.

Revengeance turned out to be a really solid spin-off, so give it a try if you haven't already. It's worth your time.

Want A Metal Gear Rising Sequel?

Even though it was a spin-off and some die-hard fans of the franchise shunned it, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was still a blast.

Would you like to see a sequel? It seems Konami might be interested in producing another Rising , as indicated by a recent questionnaire . One question on the survey asks gamers what they'd like to see in a sequel, and there are plenty of options. You can say you'd like more stealth (which kinda defeats the purpose of this spin-off series, but whatever), more "human drama," or more humor.

This means Platinum Games might be considering a follow-up effort, which is good news. I wonder how well Revengeance sold. That may be the ultimate determining factor.

New Revengeance DLC: Explore Blade Wolf’s Mysterious Origins

If you wanted your Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance experience to last longer, we've got good news for you.

Yet another expansion pack is headed your way. It's the third piece of downloadable content for the well-received action game from Konami, and it'll release on May 14 for the Xbox 360 and May 15 for the PlayStation 3. It's called Blade Wolf and it'll retail for $6.99.

This is an extra side story that focuses on LQ-84i, also known as Blade Wolf in the main storyline. Supposedly, it'll take "multiple hours" to complete this new segment, as it'll address the character's origins, detailing events prior to his epic encounter with Raiden. This DLC will also provide players with new weapons and abilities, along with an all-new boss battle. For only $7, that sounds like a fair amount of content, doesn't it? And we like anything that expands upon the single-player experience.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was a ton of fun, and we've already seen 30 VR missions and the Jetstream DLC. Geez, what's next?

Platinum Games Seeks “Secret Sauce” For Sales Success

Platinum Games has a plan to keep the action coming your way for a long time to come by finding the right mix of East and West to command better sales.

In an in-depth interview with Polygon , which we recommend reading in full, Platinum President Tatsuya Minami talks Revengeance , Bayonetta , and the future hope of growing sales.

"We're expecting Metal Gear Rising to sell better than Bayonetta, and obviously it's just come out. But if you look at games developed in certain Western studios, as far as sales go, they're clearly ahead of us there, and we're not going to be satisfied until we're at that level," said Minami.

Platinum plans to reach that level with a strategy that at first sounds unnervingly familiar:

"We have to think a lot about what resonates with consumers globally and find that secret sauce and make sure that goes into our games. And there's a lot of places we need to look for that: it's not just in art, it's also in game design, it's also in music … I think the one thing that we want more than anything in the immediate future — and it's something we continue to work hard on — is we definitely want people to understand that we're making games here in Japan, but we're making games for everybody."

We probably shouldn't worry that they will "Westernize" too much, though. This quote taken together with Platinum's body of work suggests the developer would like to appeal to everyone, but doesn't plan to change their identity. I don't think any sane gamer could accuse games like Vanquish , Bayonetta , and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance of lacking Japanese flair.

And if it's more sales they are after, hopefully there was a clause in their contract with Nintendo to allow a version of Bayonetta 2 onto other consoles in the future.

Might Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Come To The Vita?

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is one of the most brutally entertaining games of the year.

Might PlayStation Vita fans soon be able to take the ultra-stylish slashin' action on the go? It seems feasible.

According to NeoGAF user (as cited at Dual Pixels ), Sony's new handheld might indeed get the benefit of Kojima/Platinum's hot new production. There's a Trophy list that clearly shows "PS3" and "PS Vita" under the "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" label, which is hardly official confirmation but still quite interesting. It's possible that the game in question could be ported to the Vita, and Sony's portable might be able to support it very well. That's one powerful little unit.

We'll have to see what comes of this. The more software the Vita has, the better, even it's just a port of a pretty good PS3 game.

New Revengeance VR Missions: A Dwarf Gecko And A Wooden Sword

This past week, we learned that the PlayStation 3 version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would be getting an extra 30 VR missions via DLC.

It'll be available for free between March 12 and April 3 and if you want to check 'em out beforehand, here's a sneak peek thanks to Siliconera .

Okay, so it's a little weird; the mission on display has players moving through a level as a Dwarf Gekko and it looks a little like an action/platformer. Raiden shows up to act as a sniper in another stage and then there's the level where you have to go melee with nothing but your fists. There's even a Hibi damashii (Snake Spirt), which is basically a wooden sword that will let you finish the game without actually killing cyborgs. Are you ready for a whole different set of challenges this week…?
