Next Mafia Game Is “A Few Years Away”

Mafia

It’s been 20 years since the Mafia franchise took the stage and it sounds like it’s gonna be only a few more years until we see the next adventure.

While Mafia III certainly had mixed reactions, Hanger 13 didn’t let that stop them from releasing remasters of the award-winning previous entries to the franchise, really amping up the love fans had for the series and putting the studio back out into the space.

During an interview over on the official website, General Manager Roman Hladík spilled the kinda out there beans that they’ve started work on a new game in the franchise while keeping it hush-hush about what it could be about.

“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

Back in May, it was alleged the studio was working on two different mainline entries to the franchise, one prequel and another following up that prequel. While that hasn’t been confirmed, taking us back to Sicily during the late 19th and early 20th centuries would be a nice change of pace and a pleasant way to possibly even reintroduce some key people.

Hanger 13 Already Seeking To Greenlight 5th Mafia Game

Hanger 13

A rough patch befell Hanger 13 with a bout of layoffs earlier this year and its still-under-a-codename sci-fi open world getting shelved back in November. This hasn’t stopped rumors from flying, though, about a Mafia 4, a prequel entry to the franchise. Even that isn’t enough with reports pointing to the dev seeking to greenlight a fifth installment already.

This stems from the words of a virtual meeting Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had following the layoffs. Former employees discussed that Nick Baynes, the person who took over the studio head position after its previous lead departed, said that he aims to get a fifth installment greenlit.

Parent company Take-Two Interactive were quick to defend themselves saying it’s fully dedicated to the studio’s future and that it’s connecting those who couldn’t fit into any other project and as such was subject to a layoff with industry networks and resources.

Read Take-Two’s full statement.

“2K is fully committed to the future of Hangar 13 as the studio navigates a challenging but ultimately promising transition period. As part of our ongoing evaluations to ensure our resources are aligned with our goals, we have made some changes that have resulted in a reduction of positions and parting ways with some colleagues. These decisions are always difficult. We are doing all we can to work with the impacted employees to find them new roles on other projects and teams at 2K, and are providing full support to those who cannot be redeployed, connecting them with industry networks and resources to find new opportunities outside of 2K.”

Mafia: Definitive Edition Update Coming During Gamescom

Mafia: Definitive Edition

After the fairly recent release of the definitive editions for both Mafia II and Mafia III, we’ve only heard murmurs about the Mafia: Definitive Edition, which is a complete remake of the original Mafia title and scheduled to come out next month.

Worry about the silence no longer, Mafia’s official Twitter has put out a tweet citing it will be part of the 38 games featured in the Gamescom Opening Night Live event. This time around, players will get a narrative trailer.

Gamescom Opening Night Live is scheduled for August 27 at 11 AM PT/2 PM ET. Mafia: Definitive Edition is scheduled to launch on current-gen consoles on September 25 following a delay.

Mafia: Definitive Edition Delayed

Mafia: Definitive Edition

2K Games and Hangar 13 have delayed the release of Mafia: Definitive Edition to this September. Announced on the Mafia website, they cite finalizing everything and COVID-19 as the reason behind the delay.

Originally slated to launch on August 28, we aren’t going to have to wait too much longer to see a glimpse into the world. They will be releasing some gameplay footage on July 22.  At this point, we only have a 15-second teaser.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is now going to launch on September 25.

Mafia: Trilogy Teased, Full Announcement Next Week

Mafia Trilogy

It’s official, fellas. 2K Games’ Mafia franchise is coming back in the form of Mafia: Trilogy. In the coming days before its reveal, fans were… confused. Wouldn’t you be, though? The Mafia franchise’s official Twitter, which was last active back in 2018 suddenly popped back up and started tweeting again. Of course, people knew this meant something was coming.

Not much is revealed, it’s only a 30-second teaser mostly showing Vito Scaletta and Lincoln Clay. The trailer mostly ran off of the concept of family. Vito, who was the protagonist of Mafia II, went on a monologue about killing for 10 years for his family. Lincoln, on the other hand, referred to family as not “who you’re born with, it’s who you die for.”

Mafia Trilogy

There will be a proper announcement on May 19 at 12 PM EST. It won’t just be a remaster for the original Mafia title, but rather a full-on remake. Images were grabbed by keen users who saw Microsoft accidentally launched the sales page early (and quickly removed it). Mafia: Trilogy will supposedly release on August 28.

What do you think? Are you excited to see the Mafia franchise come back after its messy last entry?

[RUMOR] Something Mafia Is Going To Be Revealed Soon

Mafia

The Mafia franchise was sent off on a slightly sour note, but it might be coming back. Its last entry, Mafia III, was far from a flop, in fact, it was a commercial success, but it wasn’t as one-sided as 2K probably expected. The game came with some shortcomings such as some of its mechanics and bugs that remained throughout the game.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that 2K’s Hanger 13 would be heard from over “the coming months.” The shock value doesn’t end there, though, as definitive editions for both Mafia II and III popped up on rating boards. You can still find it on Taiwan’s rating board.

It’s odd for a company – especially Take-Two – to simply remaster a widely loved franchise and leave it at that, most would use it as fodder to get new fans interested. Even more franchise activity showed up, though, as Mafia’s official Twitter, who’s last tweet was back in August 2018, tweeted both today and yesterday. Again, it’s unlikely this is a coincidence.

The chain of events also coincides with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which will be revealing at least one game. As of right now, it’s only a rumor, but we don’t have much longer to wait. Summer Game Fest starts May 12.
