Mad Max Runs At 1080p, Huge Map Has No “Finite Limits”

They're the current benchmarks for performance: 1080p and 60 frames per second.

At the very least, we know Mad Max will manage to hit one of those benchmarks on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as Avalanche Studios senior producer John Fuller confirmed to GamingBolt .

Both versions will output 1080p and he added that PC performance will vary depending on your rig, as expected. Even more interesting is Fuller's comments concerning the map size; he says there are no "finite limits:"

"Our tech can support enormous worlds but it is always a case of balancing the density of content and travel distances so that the player feels they are in a rich world."

Mad Max is scheduled to launch for PS4 and Xbox One on September 1. Just this week, the publisher announced some timed exclusive DLC for the PS4 version in the form of 12 hood ornaments for your vehicle.

Mad Max Ad Thunders Onto Your TV

There was a time when September 1 seemed like a long ways off, huh?

Not anymore. The launch date for the anticipated Mad Max is just around the corner and to celebrate, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a TV commercial that you'll start seeing everywhere.

This 30-second spot features in-game footage of the chaotic, action-packed, sandbox extravaganza. There's no mercy in the Wasteland; only survival, and you have to be both strategic and ruthless. If you like, you can sample the game without actually playing it, as developer Avalanche prepped a Choose Your Own Destruction trailer a few weeks back.

Mad Max is just about ready to go for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

PSXE Poll Update: Gamescom 2015 Was Only Average

While Gamescom remains one of the most important industry events every year, this year's show didn't exactly light a fire under everyone.

According to our latest poll, the majority of our readers either weren't impressed at all or were only mildly interested. It probably doesn't help that Sony didn't have a press briefing at this year's proceedings.

We did get some pretty cool game trailers and announcements, though. Square Enix dished on some Final Fantasy XV info , the Dark Souls III trailer went over very well with fans of the series, EA and DICE showed off the new Battle Squadron mode for Star Wars: Battlefront , and we especially liked the vids for MGSV, FFXV and Mirror's Edge: Catalyst . But maybe Sony didn't want to spill any secrets at Gamescom and they're waiting until the PlayStation Experience in December…

This week, two huge games are on the horizon: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Mad Max . We think MGSV could hurt Mad Max's sales potential but maybe not…maybe if enough of you say you're getting both (or neither), it won't matter. Then again, if a lot of you say you're only getting The Phantom Pain , well, that says something.

Will Metal Gear Solid V Hurt Mad Max’s Sales Potential?

One has to wonder if Warner Bros. has considered changing the launch date for Mad Max .

It's a very big title and it's important to both developer Avalanche Studios and WB that it does well, so to have it go head-to-head with an even bigger title seems like a bad idea.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain also comes out on September 1 and that could pose a problem for Mad Max . As promising as the latter adventure surely is, it can't hold a candle to the legacy of MGS and if you conducted a survey asking gamers to pick between MGSV and Mad Max , I think we all know what the results would be.

Of course, one could argue that interested consumers will simply purchase both. Well, perhaps, but with the entire industry dominated by hefty open-world games that take individuals with normal lives a long time to complete, they might be extremely selective this holiday season. We all know what's coming; the likes of Fallout 4 and Assassin's Creed Syndicate might lead the open-world charge while the other genre that takes up a tremendous amount of time (shooters with multiplayer emphases), sees Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Star Wars: Battlefront .

It's a darn good thing Mad Max launches before those huge blockbusters, and it doesn't have to battle much in September. Well, aside from MGSV, which unfortunately hits store shelves on the same day. That could definitely have an impact on Mad Max sales, don't you think?

Mad Max Stronghold Trailer Highlights Cast Of Colorful Characters

We're less than a month away from Mad Max and Warner Bros. is celebrating with a new action-packed trailer.

The new video, entitled "Stronghold," gives us a peek at the game's fortified outposts that are scattered around the wasteland. There, we'll meet all manner of bizarre and colorful characters.

As it said in the press release:

"In a world where Max faces both his internal and external enemies, these strongholds hold the pieces essential to the puzzle he tries to solve. Max will need to make some uneasy alliances as he prepares to take on merciless Wasteland tyrant, Scrotus."

If you're wondering, the game has no relation to the recently released "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie. This is an entirely separate adventure and it'll be rarin' to go on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 1. Yeah, it's the same release day as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain but you can squeeze in both, right?
