Downloadable content becomes less important when there's plenty of content available at the outset.

As confirmed in a recent Famitsu issue (translated by Siliconera ), the upcoming King of Fighters 14 will launch with a massive roster of 50 characters!

Developer SNK Playmore often delivers a hefty roster with their fighters, and the newest installment will be no exception. Director Yasuki Oda confirmed that the complete roster will be available to players when the game first releases, and the team doesn't plan on "adding more" in the future. "It wouldn't be a KoF game with a small number of characters," he added. In regards to DLC, Oda said they haven't talked about their plans:

"[DLC] will have to wait until we see how the 50 characters do after launch, so it has yet to be decided."

King of Fighters 14 was announced during Sony's press conference at last year's Tokyo Game Show, and it will feature "high-quality 3D visuals, however staying true to the gameplay roots of the series." Thus far, the title has only been confirmed for PS4; interestingly, KoF13 only came to Xbox 360 and PC.

The title is expected to ship in Japan this month but no word on when – and if – Western fighting aficionados can expect it.
