Killzone 3 Rockets To #1 At Amazon’s Game Division

Although it began amidst controversy with lower-than-anticipated review scores, those scores have been on the rise recently, and fans are definitely ready to pick up Killzone 3 today.

According to PunchJump , high pre-order sales allowed Guerrilla's excellent sequel to be ranked as the top-selling product at Amazon.com's video game division, and there also seems to be demand for the special Helghast Edition, which comes complete with bonus content and even an exclusive Cloaking Helghast Marksman action figure. If you did pre-order at Amazon, you'll receive a $20 Bonus, access to 3 Unlock Points that can be used on a weapon or ability in the multiplayer aspect of the game, and a Retro Map Pack. It will never achieve the ridiculous sales of other FPSs but then again, KZ3 is exclusive, so comparison of sales numbers won't make much sense. Still, to have such a positive response at Amazon is a good sign. Guerrilla On The Challenge Of “Moving” In Killzone 3

As much as we like PlayStation Move and it's potential, we saw this coming a mile away.

We've often questioned Move's "usability" with shooters and wondered if the Move mechanic could be superior to the standard controller approach. Well, Guerrilla Games boss Steven Ter Heide spoke about the Move compatibility in Killzone 3 during the Eurogamer Expo, and he even played the game with Sony's motion sensing. He added that he had a lot of experience with it so he made it "look easy" but for the most part, he admits that "DualShockers will run circles round Move players."

Now, this could be due to the fact that Guerrilla's QA testers were masters of the DS3 and hence, could easily dominate anyone who used the all-new Move controller. But even so, the studio claims no matter how good you are with Move, you'll still require some help, which is why they added aim assist for motion players. This doesn't mean standard controller players and Move players can't/won't play together, but for now…well, more tests are needed.

The sensitivity will be the biggest problem. Even just looking at the Archery game in Sports Champions gives you an idea of how pinpoint accurate you'd have to be in a game like KZ3, and everything is moving much faster. Nevertheless, Guerrilla doesn't regret implementing Move capability. Said Ter Heide:

"For us it’s opening up the game to a whole new audience which was interesting for us. So as soon as that kind of opportunity came to us we jumped on it… We feel a lot of people are attracted to the way the game looks, but they don’t necessarily pick up the controller and start playing with it because it’s a little bit daunting to get control of. At the same time there is a whole PC gamer audience out there who have always been complaining that the mouse and keyboard are a lot better than an actual DualShock, and the Move is a kind of bridge between that."

He added that in regards to Move being utilized in different types of games, "the book hasn't been written yet." Basically, we have to invent all new rules for the new controller but Ter Heide says that within a year's time, those rules "will have established themselves and the Move control will feel very natural."
