Some franchises have simply been lost over the years. A few of them really shouldn't have disappeared.
I still think 989 Studios managed to kill Jet Moto (just like they managed to kill Twisted Metal before David Jaffe came back and resurrected it in the PS2 generation). But the Singletrac-developed original title remains one of my favorite games of all time.
And while some IPs just wouldn't translate well to a new generation of flash and panache, I think Jet Moto would be perfect. It could be a high-flying, uber-competitive racer filled with outrageous courses and insanely intense action. Don't forget that 20 racers were jammed onto relatively small courses in Jet Moto and we had some pretty spectacular courses, even in those days. Cliffhanger, Suicide Run and Nightmare stick out in my mind, certainly.
So much could be done with a modern version of the game; I envision a cross between nail'd and Splashdown . I know we're getting Aqua Moto Racing Utopia for PS4 but that's really not cutting it. An inventive team could make a memorable Jet Moto for a new generation.
Which PS1 classic would you like to see a developer revisit?
