The spy legends will return this fall; not just one James Bond, but several!
007 Legends will boast sequences from multiple classic Bond films and today, Activision has released a new trailer for the highly anticipated compilation adventure.
This is "On Her Majesty's Secret Service Mission" trailer, which shows off a whole lot of snowy action. There's skiing (while firing a weapon), snowmobile riding (…again, while firing a weapon), a glimpse of some gadgetry, and of course, that trademark Bond soundtrack. Eurocom usually gives us a pretty solid experience and we're expecting nothing less this time around.
The latest interactive iteration in the legendary spy series has earned a release date : 007 Legends arrive on October 16, a full month before the new film goes to theaters.
Boasting missions from the upcoming "Skyfall" movie as well as five other Bond big-screen adventures (dating back to 1979's "Moonraker"), this new title from Eurocom should be tons of fun. And in addition to what should be an action-packed campaign, we'll receive the single-player Mi6 Ops Missions mode, which debuted in last year's well-received GoldenEye 007: Reloaded . And of course, you gotta have the Bond staple: local four-player split-screen multiplayer and the now-standard online competitive multiplayer.
Bioshock Infinite was initially supposed to launch on October 16, too, but now the landing pad is clear for 007 Legends . And you know, as much as we're going to miss the potential new masterpiece from Irrational Games, last year's totally awesome Reloaded puts the new Bond game high on our priority list. How's about you?
It was also the only option for the fans last year, as the new Bond film was postponed. But now that production has started on a new film, it's no surprise to learn that another video game based on the legendary spy is in the works. Bond's license holder, MGM, has been involved in bankruptcy issues but now, the new movie is confirmed for November 9, 2012 and in addition: "Yet another James Bond videogame, which also had been held up because of uncertainty, recently got the go-ahead." We assume the interactive adventure will be out around the same time as the movie, but the report didn't include an estimated launch date. Recently, we've seen rumors that studio Raven Software was working on a new Bond title, and it would revolve around stealth, but that hasn't been confirmed as of yet. We hope it's true, though; Bond definitely needs a heavy dose of stealth, right?
Well, maybe that's just me. Anyway, I actually went ahead and finished Blood Stone after reviewing it, just because it was decent – albeit flawed – fun. It's worth a play-through for a budget price.
James Bond 007: Blood Stone was a decent, entertaining spy iteration. It did have a bit of stealth, but it was hardly the focus.
That being said, might the next game fully embrace the patience-driven mechanic? Amidst the fallout surrounding MGM's bankruptcy proceedings, the 23rd Bond film had been temporarily shelved, and many fans wondered about the future of the legendary franchise. But resolution has been achieved; a federal bankruptcy court approved a deal that would allow pre-production of a new 007 film to start. In addition to the movie, fan site MI6 has reported that the next interactive installment is also back on track…and it's actually in development at Singularity developer, Raven Studios. The report claims that the game is in the "early phases" of development and will be labeled as "stealth/action." We've always thought Bond could use a slick Splinter Cell type of gameplay and presentation; it's just the kind of setting that would benefit from such an approach.
For now, nothing has been confirmed, but we certainly like the idea. Although Blood Stone was sort of fun, it couldn't stand up to the quality of the fall gems and really felt a little bland. Perhaps this new project will serve as a much-needed shot in the arm for Bond video games.
James Bond 007: Blood Stone could be a big holiday hit…provided it can thrive in the shadow of Call of Duty: Black Ops .
In speaking to CVG , Bizarre Creations producer Nick Davies spoke about the competition for his team's upcoming action/adventure title, along with any relevant influences ('cough' Naughty Dog 'cough'). First, Davies says there really isn't much like Blood Stone on store shelves; the game combines third-person gunfights and hand-to-hand combat with racing elements, and there's even a dash of that patented Bond flair and humor. Davies also mentioned Everything or Nothing , which in his eyes was a "big sprawling adventure that had every kind of gameplay." So that certainly acted as inspiration, as did Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , which he called "the daddy" of third-person shooters. But what about Treyarch's hotly anticipated shooter, the one that is destined to rule the sales charts for the holidays…?
"Obviously the big game out at the end of the year is Call of Duty: Black Ops. So that's a big thorn in everyone's side I imagine."
Well, Modern Warfare 2 was certainly a "thorn" last year, as multiple games escaped out of 2009 to get some much-needed space. Infinity Ward's mega-title is the primary reason we had so many huge games fall into the first quarter of this year, and now, it looks like deja vu. But if you're not interested, you might want to give James Bond 007: Blood Stone a try; it'll be ready to go later this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and DS.
We had heard the title before, but we never had any official confirmation or details.
But now, Activision has officially announced James Bond 007: Blood Stone , an entirely original Bond adventure from screenwriter Bruce Feirstein. Currently in development for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, the game features a third-person action experience that will include all sorts of gameplay elements in a variety of exotic locales. Said David Pokress, Activision Publishing Head of Marketing for Licensed Properties:
"James Bond 007: Blood Stone captures the cinematic intensity of a Bond film by immersing players in an intriguing conspiracy that will require them to think and act like James Bond. In addition, the game will feature a diverse array of multi-player modes and debut strategic objective-based gameplay that will allow Xbox 360, PS3 and PC players to battle as teams of spies and mercenaries through authentic Bond locales."
Both Daniel Craig and Judy Dench will be lending their voices to the game and of course, every Bond production needs a girl; for Blood Stone , it's fittingly another "stone:" Joss Stone. Cover-based firefights, lethal hand-to-hand, driving mechanics, high-tech gadgetry and weapons, environments ranging from Athens to Istanbul to Monaco to Bangkok…it's all here.
We'll also get a 16-player online multiplayer mode and for the record, the game is being developed by Bizarre Creations, a racing veteran who has brought you Blur and the Project Gotham series. Blood Stone has a good shot of being decent, if only because it isn't based on any one particular movie. Transformers: War for Cybertron wasn't, either, and that turned out really well. So here's hoping!
