Horizon: Zero Dawn TGS Gameplay Is So Awesome, It’s Scary

Yeah, you've seen a few trailers for the latest from Guerrilla Games.

But you haven't seen this gameplay demo that was on display during last week's Tokyo Game Show, and you really need to watch it.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and it could be one of the very best games of the generation. If it does indeed launch toward the end of next year, it might compete with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End for numerous end-of-the-year awards. Nothing happens for the first minute and a half of the embedded video below (you get some nice scenery, though), and then the gameplay really gets going.

In it, the protagonist uses some stealth to take down a foe and then tackles the massive Thunderjaw, which we've seen before. This time, however, we watch the player use a myriad of ways to take the beast down. There are optional types of ammunition for the bow (obviously, the electrified one works well), and the narrator says the Thunderjaw actually has twelve different attacks and we're only seeing four of them in the demo.

Then the player snags what looks like a hefty rocket launcher, which packs a punch but greatly limits movement speed. The last part is the coolest, where a rope launcher is used to tie the mechanical beast to the ground, so he can be finished off. Just…gimme. Now.
