Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Garners Over 100 Million Views

In spite of the leak that forced Rockstar Games’ hand to release the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer early, leading to some pretty disappointed staff, the trailer has garnered quite a viewership. Can’t lie… we’ve probably watched it way too many times to be considered “healthy” in the few days it’s been public.

On YouTube, the trailer is #1 on Trending, which is not too shocking, especially as the trailer boasts nearly 100 million views over the last two days, as of the time of writing. No doubt by publication, it’s probably breached 120 million. Considering how long fans have waited for an official trailer, finally seeing it is kind of shocking to some and very, very gratifying to others.

Of the nearly 100 million views, the GTA 6 trailer garnered 8.9 million likes and over 700K comments.

“Well, That F**king Sucks,” Rockstar Employee On Trailer Leak

Rockstar Games was put in a tough spot after deciding to release the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer ahead of schedule due to a rampant leak, now some employees are responding. Naturally, they aren’t too happy for what should’ve been this joyous scheduled moment ruined.

Members of the VFX team took to Twitter to bemoan the leak, Lead VFX Artist Lloyd Knott, simply posted — what seemed out of context — “Well, that f**king sucks.” Meanwhile, Senior VFX Artist Chloe Shearer took a more humorous approach with her “ah shit, here we go again” post.

Senior Gameplay Animator Javier Altman was just as unhappy, as he wanted to watch the trailer for the first time with his co-workers, Technical Mission Designer Joe Martin felt it was gutting to take that moment away from staff, Rockstar’s Jay Marsden-Bullen felt it was sad that the trailer was released early because of a leak, and others had similar woes.

Quite frankly, though, Knott’s post is probably what most employees felt after all that hard work was pushed out to the world not on schedule, but rather so that Rockstar could still showcase the trailer.

Welp, The Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Just Dropped

Just like Rockstar Games promised, Grand Theft Auto 6 saw its first trailer drop earlier today, and as expected, it’s mostly a sizzler to give us a little atmosphere about what to expect as we head forth into the next entry.

Rockstar dropped the new trailer on YouTube, confirming reports of a female protagonist named Lucia. It’s also clear that we’re heading back to Vice City in all its sinful, Florida-man-inspired glory. While we don’t know anything about the game’s overall story, we’re sure like all other GTAs, Rockstar has quite a banger in its hands.

The most notable thing, though, the game’s closer than we thought it would be, releasing sometime in 2025.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Footage Leaks Ahead Of Reveal

Allegedly, footage of Grand Theft Auto 6 has surfaced on social media only days ahead of Rockstar Games dropping the game’s first trailer.

According to a report from GTABase, the leak stems from an employee’s son, though of course it’s difficult to really confirm this, nor the leak itself. It’s only a few seconds of footage, and so far, Rockstar has stayed quiet about the leak. If true, it’s really sad that a kid would put their parent’s livelihood at a major game developer — and potentially the industry itself — at stake for some clout on social media. Alternatively, it could someone posing as a Rockstar employee’s kid.

Of course, this is all rumors, including the footage itself, but considering how close we are to the first trailer and how the footage lines up with previous leaks, it isn’t too far-fetched.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Drops This Week

Most people anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 to be announced at The Game Awards on December 7, but apparently not, with Rockstar Games planning on a day before. This reveal comes after last month when the studio announced nonchalantly that it would be dropping the first trailer in December, but lacked any time or date at the time.

“Trailer 1” of GTA 6 , however, was unveiled on December 5 at 9 AM EST/6 AM PST. Outside of that little info dump, nothing else is in the post.

This has been a long time coming, as fans have been begging for the next entry in the GTA series for years now. It isn’t clear what the trailer will show, but if we had to guess, it’ll largely be a core concept trailer featuring the main protagonist and a brief glimpse at the city we have to explore.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Teaser Post Breaks Records

GTA 6

Rockstar Games’ recent four-post thread on Twitter has left quite an impression, even without a proper trailer, artwork, or screenshot. Earlier this month, the New York dev bizarrely announced that it would drop Grand Theft Auto 6’s first trailer in early December.

As pointed out by PSLS, the single post within that four-post thread is sitting at over 1.5 million likes and makes history as the site’s most-liked gaming-related post.

We still aren’t certain about its release date, but prior reports indicate that it’s closer than many probably expect, with the game possibly out before March 2025. We know a year sounds like a long wait, but considering GTA 5 is still selling like crazy, we’re kind of glad it isn’t waiting for the previous entry to “fall off.”
