Grim Fandango Remastered Now Available For Pre-Order

It's one of the most respected games on earth and if you've never played it, you need to remedy the situation.

If you haven't heard, Grim Fandango Remastered is headed to PlayStation 4, Vita, PC, Mac and Linux on January 27. It's a re-imagining of one of Tim Schafer's classic adventures and it's hard to think of it without smiling.

It's currently available to pre-order for PC at GOG.com or for PS4/Vita on the PlayStation Network. Pre-ordering gets you a bonus dynamic PS4/Vita theme, too, and it'll probably be the best $15 you've ever spent. The Remastered version gives the original PS1 game pretty high-def graphics, a re-recorded score, and even developer commentary. Plus, you get to play one of the most unique, atmospheric video games ever created. Next up: Psychonauts ! …uh, right, Tim?

Seriously, how can you pass it up?

Double Fine: Want Sequels? Great, Lend Us The Money

See, it's not necessarily a matter of whether or not they want to, but whether or not they can .

We all know that despite almost always being wonderfully original and special in a variety of different ways, Tim Schafer's quality products don't always translate to financial successes. In fact, unfortunately, few do. This is probably the reason the loyal followers have never had sequels to games like Grim Fandango and Psychonauts (one of my personal favorites). A reader turned us onto a reply from Double Fine in the FAQ section of the studio's website : when asked if the team has any plans to produce sequels for either Psychonauts or Brutal Legend , the answer was:

"Not right now, but we’d love to someday. If anyone out there has a few million dollars burning a hole in their pocket, and would like to help us make an excellent sequel, please let us know."

In regards to Full Throttle , Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle , the response was as follows:

"That would be fun, but we don’t own the rights to any of those games, so we can’t. Instead, we have to make up our own new stuff. Which is awesome."

Well, okay, we can live with that. Besides, it's probably good for a studio like Double Fine to remain as fresh as humanly possible; that kind of imagination, creativity and originality might disappear if they latched onto one particular series, you know? Even so, we would've loved to see at least a few sequels here and there…

If you never got a chance at Psychonauts , by the way, you really missed out. Such a fantastic, ingenious platformer; I just adored the Black Velvetopia, Waterloo and The Milkman Conspiracy levels.
