GameStop Cancer Charity Drive Brings In $2.8 Million

Thanks to the generosity of gamers, St. Jude's can continue the ongoing fight against cancer.

Video game retailer GameStop has announced that their "Thanks and Giving" charity campaign raised a grand total of $2.8 million during the November and December holiday period. That's nearly three times the original goal of $1 million.

The funds will go toward research and treatment of those suffering from childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. GameStop and its sister companies, including Spring Mobile, Simply Mac, ThinkGeek and Game Informer, gave consumers a chance to donate to the cause and everyone who donated at least $1 at GameStop got an extra 10 percent trade-in credit for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games.

This is the retailer's third year of participation and overall, they've managed to raise $4.2 million for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. And while that particular campaign is over, you can always give: Learn more at the organization's official website or call 1-800-4STJUDE.

GameStop’s Thanks And Giving Campaign Starts Tomorrow

In the spirit of the holidays, you might consider giving to those who actually need your help.

GameStop To Donate PS4 Bundles To Ronald McDonald Houses

PlayStation 4s for all!

Mega-game retailer GameStop has announced a new charity initiative that will support Ronald McDonald Houses, the charity led by fast food giant McDonald's.

GameStop will donate PS4 bundles to all 180 Ronald McDonald houses in the United States, and these bundles will include an extra DualShock 4 controller and copies of LittleBigPlanet 3 , Driveclub , and MLB 15: The Show . That seems like an appropriate assortment for youngsters, wouldn't you say? And by the way, this isn't new for GameStop; they've been working with McDonald's for over 6 years.

If you're unfamiliar, Ronald McDonald Houses are supposed to be "homes-away-from-homes" for families who must travel to a faraway hospital or care center for their child's treatment. It's not a bad idea…I just wish it wasn't driven by a company that opts to feed kids toxic sludge as opposed to, you know, food .

But it's nice to have PS4s.
