Sure, Jason Voorhees got a cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat X , but that's hardly the same thing as getting his own game.
Gun Media and developer Illfonic have revealed Friday the 13th: The Game , a third-person asymmetrical multiplayer title in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The Kickstarter campaign is live and it has already dragged in close to $185,000 at the time of this writing. Their goal is $700,00 and they've got 31 days left to hit it; thankfully, this seems doable. In the game, one player controls Jason while seven other take control of the camp counselors who must attempt to survive the night.
The game's structure is described as "semi-open world" and it's based on the iconic Camp Crystal Lake from the original film. As the developer said in a statement:
"It's a classic horror fan's dream, no shaky cam, no found footage. We want you to know we're revitalizing the golden era of slashers, and putting you at the controls of each horrific, blood-splattered moment."
Looks like fun but it's too bad they didn't want to make a narrative-driven horror game. Oh well, multiplayer dominates these days, anyway.
