Firesprite Is Still Hiring For Its Dark Narrative Game

You may remember back in 2022, it was reported that Horizon: Call of the Mountain developer Firesprite was hiring for a narrative horror game. Skip forward to now and it appears it’s still hiring, with six more positions spotted.

As spotted by TheGamer, the job descriptions for positions like senior cinematic designer, head of audio, principal level designer, and principal graphics programmer also describe it as a “huge, highly ambitious project,” which links it back to a 2021 report.

With what little we have, we suspect this game is likely going to be some ways out. It’s also not clear if the previous report of Firesprite’s game releasing next year is still viable with the level of hiring it’s undergoing. The studio was part of PlayStation’s mass layoffs that led to the closure of London Studio earlier in the year.

Firesprite’s TBA PS5 Exclusive Horror May Release In 2025

Firesprite’s unannounced horror game may release in 2025, which means odds are we’ll see some sort of reveal sometime next year. This title will be incredibly notable as Sony doesn’t typically dabble in the horror genre.

In a now-edited resume on Artstation (via ResetEra), now-Sumo Digital employee, Agnes Hvalstad, a concept artist who previously worked on this TBA horror game, cited 2025 as the year. Now, considering she edited it to 2023, it could’ve very well meant the end of her contract with the PlayStation Studios studio.

Considering Sony’s been scarce when it comes to this exclusive, we could easily just be looking for the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel info, but regardless, here’s hoping this isn’t something to scoff at.

What do you think? Do you want to see more of Firesprite’s horror exclusive? Let us know below!

Multiple First-Party PlayStation Games Potentially Delayed

Naughty Dog

As with many game devs and their earnings reports, PlayStation has dropped some hints that might affect the release dates of upcoming first-party titles that they aren’t ready to talk about just yet. Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2 are slated for this year, but this hint might mean otherwise.

The news was pointed out by Kotaku’s Ethan Gach on Twitter, who shared a screenshot of one of their panels. Now, this could mean a myriad of games, as PlayStation has plenty of studios working on a ton of stuff, there’s also the possibility these affected games are unannounced, however slim it may be. Rumors of The Last of Us Part II upgrade, Horizon Zero Dawn remake, and a new Twisted Metal under the development of Firesprite are all possibilities.

We can expect The Last of Us’ ambitious multiplayer game is among those affected, though, with no new news outside of Naughty Dog downsizing the team after Bungie didn’t like what it saw, it’s certainly a slow project now. No formal cancelation or release date. However, perhaps it had an internal release date that has since changed.

Others point to the possibility it’s talking about Stellar Blade, which XDev had a hand in, though that isn’t fully first-party, but instead, Sony is publishing the game. The game hasn’t had a new trailer since September 2022, where it was unveiled to be releasing this year. It’s a possibility, though, one we’re not expecting to be the case, it’s just too third-party.

Firesprite Vows To Be A “Creative Powerhouse”

Firesprite

Following a move to a new office, PlayStation Studios subsidiary, Firesprite, is vowing to become a “creative powerhouse” for its parent.

The studio made this lofty goal public during a Thursday post about the studio’s new, flashy office in Liverpool.

The studio has yet to put out a solo project under the PlayStation Studios banner so far, but it was an essential helper in the production of Horizon: Call of the Mountain alongside Guerrilla Games.

Since its acquisition in 2021, the studio has grown significantly, boasting 250 developers. It’s also not too hard to see the studio achieving its goals with a horror game supposedly in its future as well as a shooter. It’s also supposedly working on a new entry to the Twisted Metal franchise.

Horizon Call Of The Mountain News Coming This Week

Horizon Call of the Mountain

Guerrilla Games is raring to launch its next co-venture with fellow PlayStation Studios dev, Firesprite, for the upcoming next generation of VR, PSVR2. While many are still trying to get the PS5 itself, the headset is arriving in February at a weighty price tag of $549.99 and what’s more, Horizon Call of the Mountain will launch alongside it.

Apparently, it seems Guerrilla has at least a little more news before we can jump into Horizon’s world for ourselves. The developer asked fans to keep their eyes peeled for new news about the upcoming VR title over on Twitter.

As to what the news could be, it’s up in the air, it could be more details about the game’s story or it could be more gameplay

Focused entirely on a new character, Horizon Call of the Mountain puts us in the shoes of former Shadow Carja, Ryas, as a new threat looms in Sundom. It isn’t all new stuff, though, familiar characters and machines are strewn about the game.

Call of the Mountain will launch alongside the PSVR2 on February 22, 2023.

Alleged Leaked Doc Details Unannounced PlayStation Games

Unannounced PlayStation Games

A document has found its way across the internet that points to several unannounced PlayStation games. Unfortunately, PSX Extreme was unable to answer to its validity, but Gematsu, alleges they’ve fact-checked many of these games through their own sources.

The biggest leaks alleged that Guerrilla Games are in the works making a PS5 remaster to Horizon Zero Dawn and a multiplayer game based on the IP. Other games on the list, as per Insider Gaming allege Firesprite is working on a survival horror, which lines up to previous coverage earlier this year, nicknamed Heartbreak.

Sumo Digital is working on an open-world multiplayer under the working title Carbon. Lucid Games is working on a multiplayer vehicle combat game nicknamed Redstar, which is likely the working name for the next Twisted Metal entry, which is in the works at the studio. Kojima Productions is working on an open-world cryptically nicknamed Ocean.

Project Bates makes another appearance in this leak, but we already knew about this Ballistic Moon-PlayStation project already back in August.

London Studio is also working on a game as a service title under the nickname Camden. None of these have been properly announced and it’s all possible to be bogus, but much of it already had hints throughout the last year or so, so really, it’s not too hard to believe these unannounced PlayStation games are really the working titles.
