February 23 Will Be The Best Day For Gaming In 2016

We all know that 2016 is loaded with hugely anticipated titles. But did you realize that three potential Game of the Year candidates are actually slated to launch on the same damn day ?

That's right. Mark your calendar if you haven't already: February 23, 2016.

On that day, we will receive Deus Ex: Mankind Divided , Mirror's Edge: Catalyst , and the freshly announced Far Cry Primal . It's one helluva coincidence and the only good news for those tight on time is that only the latter will be truly open-world (we think). Catalyst is certainly more open than the original Mirror's Edge but it clearly isn't a sandbox experience that will run you hundreds of hours, and neither is Mankind Divided . The 100+ hour experiences like Fallout 4 will be behind you by then.

Even so, that's quite the trio. Furthermore, PlayStation 4 owners probably shouldn't forget that Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness is scheduled to come out only a couple days later on the 25th, and that's guaranteed to be a pretty big game. Oh, and don't forget about The Division and Hitman in March, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in April (yes, all three were delayed; they were originally set for late 2015).

So, planning to call in sick on February 23, or what?

Far Cry Primal Roars Into Existence, Will Launch In February

A few days ago, Ubisoft teased a new game announcement and sources said it was a new Far Cry .

Yep, that's what it is: The publisher has officially revealed Far Cry Primal , which will be set in the "savage Stone Age." This is slightly different than the reported Ice Age setting.

The new effort is described as a "full-fledged single-player experience" (always good to hear) and the year is 10,000 BC when massive beasts like the woolly mammoth and sabertooth tiger roam the untamed landscape. Players will assume the role of Takkar, a hunter and the last surviving member of his hunting group. Additionally, we'll get a "cast of memorable characters," so we're looking forward to an engaging narrative.

Players will also have the opportunity to craft tools and weapons based on what they can find and in the announcement trailer, you'll see the hunter take down a woolly mammoth with spears and arrows. Said Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot:

"Far Cry usually puts you at the edge of the known world, in a beautiful, lawless, and savage frontier. The Stone Age is, in a way, the very first frontier for humankind; it’s the time when humans put a stick in the ground and claimed land for their own, the time when we started climbing the food chain. That came with conflict, against other humans of course, but also against nature itself."

Far Cry Primal is set to launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016; it'll release on PC in March. That could pose a problem, though, as both Mirror's Edge: Catalyst and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided also hit store shelves on the 23rd of February.

Hope you've got some time on your hands this winter!
