It sort of reminds us of Metro , which is a good thing.
Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced Dying Light , a "first-person, action survival horror game with a portentous day-night cycle set in a vast open world." The project is in development at Dead Island developer Techland, and it's being prepped for both current generation and next-gen systems (PS3/PS4, Xbox 360/Xbox One, PC).
This landscape will be significantly different when the sun sets. During the day, players will explore an urban environment overrun by a nasty outbreak of some kind. You'll scavenge for supplies and craft weapons to defend yourself against the rising infected population. Then at night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected nasties become much more aggressive. Furthermore, there will be some predators that only appear after the sun disappears.
Said Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations Kevin Kebodeaux:
"We are excited to partner with Techland on Dying Light, which is an original gaming experience for next-generation consoles. The partnership with Techland allows us to combine their successful development capabilities with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's one-of-a-kind publishing expertise to deliver on this title."
Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka added that "next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle." They're also instituting "inventive free running mechanics," which sounds suspiciously like Mirror's Edge , but we imagine the two games aren't similar at all. He may have just accidentally stolen the actual term used in DICE's first-person adventure from 2008.
Anyway, look for Dying Light some time next year. For more info, visit the game's Facebook page .
