Sony Phones To Support Dual Shock 3

From our not-so-significant-news department we hear that Sony Mobile is about to introduce native support for the DualShock 3 PlayStation 3 controller in their Android phones.

That means full wireless support to play Android/PlayStation Mobile games without
the need for additional software.

This feature was first spotted in the upcoming Sony Xperia SP (C530X) settings menu. We don’t know whether support will also come to other handsets such as the Xperia Z, but we’d be surprised if this wasn't the case.

Can one see this as one tiny little step towards the blurring of the lines between the gaming platforms? Perhaps. But most of all I think they did it "just cause they can". Technically speaking it's an easy thing to do.

Still, it's pretty cool in it's own wacky way. Like an "official hack", sort of.

Dual Shock 3 Won’t Work With PS4

The new Dual Shock 4 controller is definitely an upgraded version, but if you'd still rather have the older iteration, you're out of luck.

Before Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 4, there were rumors that the system would support the current Dual Shock 3. However, according to Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida , the PS4 will not be compatible with this generation's PlayStation controller.

Yoshida confirmed that the PS4 does support Move, but does not support the Dual Shock 3. We already knew it would be compatible with Move, because Media Molecule had an in-depth presentation during the PlayStation Meeting that focused on their new-found fascination with Sony's motion sensing accessory. And that Dual Shock 4 is awfully nifty; it has a front-facing touch pad, a new Share button (that should prove revolutionary), a built-in speaker, and upgraded rumble functionality.

Still, it would've been nice to be able to use our current gamepads.

Two New PS3 Peripherals For Japan

For now, we'll just be all optimistic and assume this news will soon apply to North America.

According to Andriasang , Sony has revealed a couple new peripherals for the PlayStation 3 today. The first is a new color for the Dual Shock 3; it's the Candy Blue controller, and it'll hold the standard retail price tag for a DS3. The other accessory is the Dual Shock 3 Charging Stand, which can charge two DS3 or Sixaxis controllers; the kit includes the stand, an AC adapter, power cord, and two charging attachments. This will go for ¥2,480 in Japan, which is approximately $30. For my part, I figure that even if you never play with another person, you still need two controllers; one to charge while the other is in use. This way, you can just keep switching off and you never have to wait (provided you remember to have one always plugged into the system). A charge stand is a great option for anybody with two or more controllers. And as for Candy Blue, that's a cool color…even if it'd look weird next to my silver and black ones.

We'll let you know if Sony announces both new peripherals for the US. I don't see why we'd have to go without this time.
