Another Job Listing For Console Version Of Diablo III

It's starting to become the worst-kept secret in gaming.

Despite the lack of an official confirmation, more evidence continues to arise that Blizzard is working on a console iteration of Diablo III . The best we've had from the developer is the encouraging statement that the upcoming sequel "is probably coming to consoles."

But as more times passes, it's less like "probably" and more like "definitely." The Internet is a-buzz with another job sighting at Gamasutra …it's pretty obvious. Blizzard is looking for a Console Network Senior Software Engineer, and the successful applicant will be "responsible for ensuring the best implementation of sophisticated networking systems on consoles." See, there's that word again: "consoles."

Blizzard seems reluctant to make the confirmation but at this rate, we have to assume Diablo III for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is a given. However, we do wonder when the console version will actually release. How long will we have to wait after the launch of the PC version…? They won't be ready for a simultaneous release for all targeted platforms, will they?

Blizzard Experimenting With Gamepad Control For Diablo III

Although it hasn't been confirmed that Blizzard will bring Diablo III to consoles, we keep seeing evidence that it might happen eventually.

The latest comes from a European interview with game director Jay Wilson, where he talks about "experimenting" with console-based controls.

He says they've been fiddling around with an Xbox 360 controller, and they've found that it works very well. In fact, he says this direct control can "feel even better," which is good news. Of course, he's only talking about optional gamepad controls for the PC version, but it's still encouraging news. It means the game can easily end up on a console, although it seems apparent that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions would likely arrive some time after the PC debut. Either way, we just want console gamers to have the opportunity.

I still remember the days of playing Diablo II with friends in college. Yeah, it was that long ago. We've been waiting a while for the third iteration.

Rumor: Blizzard “Pushing” To Launch Diablo III In November

If we were to rank this rumor on the probability scale, we'd be forced to put it on the low end.

Even so, considering the fact that we've been waiting for many, many years, we suppose the end might finally be in sight. According to an "inside source" as cited by GotGame , Diablo III might launch in November of this year. That's right, November 2011. Of course, the source says they're "pushing" to hit that release window, with Blizzard employees "working from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily to finish polishing content." We haven't the slightest idea what GotGame is talking about regarding Activision Blizzard's "common" secrecy ploy concerning new titles (that's a…bizarre observation), but we'll let that slide. The bottom line is that Diablo III might finally be on the fast track.

There's still no knowing whether or not the long-anticipated RPG will arrive for consoles as well as PC, but multiple pieces of evidence have suggested D3 will indeed arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Blizzard Seeking People To Work On “Console Diablo III”

Why are we searching for evidence for a game that should've been out a good seven or eight years ago?

Ah well, such is the nature of the ongoing saga that is Diablo . We know Diablo III is in the works but we certainly don't have a release date, and we're still not certain it will arrive for consoles.

However, as to the latter topic, there has been various pieces of evidence over the past year to indicate that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners will get the long-anticipated title. The latest info comes from a few new job listings : recently, Blizzard – via Gamasutra – posted a want ad for a Senior Producer to work on "Console Diablo III," and now, it has happened again. This time, they're looking for a Lead Designer to work on "(Console) Diablo III." Blizzard asks that applicants have "at least one AAA console title" to their credit and to disturb us a bit, they ask for "experience with shipping or porting multi-platform games." …now why'd they have to say that?

We're just a little leery of ports, that's all. To date, Blizzard has not confirmed Diablo III for any platform besides the PC but maybe there's ample evidence to convince us of its inevitable arrival on the PS3 and 360.
