Activision: The Average Destiny Player Has Put In 100 Hours

If you play Destiny , chances are, you play quite a bit.

As part of the publisher's earnings report (as cited by GameSpot ), Activision said the average Destiny player has invested around 100 hours.

Over 20 million registered players have been involved in the game at one point or another, and they have generated over 20 billion hours of entertainment. Obviously, there are those who play a lot longer than others; while many have probably played four or five hundred hours, many others only played for twenty or thirty before moving on.

Unsurprisingly, Activision also wanted to remind everyone that the huge expansion, The Taken King, will arrive in September. Recently, developer Bungie gave us a peek at the all new location included in that expansion: The Dreadnaught. And don't forget about that cool PS4 bundle !

Destiny: Nearly 13 Million Players, 872.4 Million Hours

If you've played Destiny , you're not alone. You are really not alone.

Developer Bungie has released some very large statistics at their blog and one of them is the number of people who have played Destiny to date: 12,869,066.

And to aid those nearly 13 million players, Bungie has over 500 people currently working on the game; after all, an always-online, always-evolving experience requires constant vigilance. Some other fun stats: 22.93 million Guardians have been created, the newly released Crota's End Raid (delivered with The Dark Below DLC) has been beaten 769 times already, and all told, players have invested 872.4 million hours! The best part is that these numbers will rise quickly due to the Christmas rush.

Bungie calls them "Christmas Noobs" (those who get the game as a gift) and advises the Destiny vets to give the newcomers a break:

"Go easy on 'em. They'll show up in the Crucible–lost, confused, and freshly minted as Level Fives. They'll arrive on the forum where you're sort of a big deal, asking questions you discovered the answers to a long time ago. Take them under your wing. Show them the way. They’ll learn a lot from you."

"Take them under your wing." Can we really expect that kind of helpful generosity in the world of online multiplayer shooters…? Maybe that's too much to expect.

Destiny Players Getting A Boatload Of Bang For Their Buck

If you hadn't guessed, a whole lot of people play Destiny on a routine basis.

The game has only been available for a month and yet, millions of gamers enjoy the MMOFPS-type experience every day. In a new post at Bungie's official website , Community Manager David "DeeJ" Dague revealed that 3.2 million players log in every day.

Bungie has already announced that the play sessions for these players average three hours, even on weekdays (lots of college students, we assume), and the average player logs into the game 1.8 times per day, and has played the game 20.9 times overall. In the past three weeks, Bungie's latest blockbuster reeled in more online players than it did during the same span for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach combined . Of course, those games had solo campaigns and the industry continues to grow at a rapid rate, but still…

Said Dague:

"Your reactions and your opinions have helped us to make Destiny better over this past month. Pioneering something new is never easy. When we see the raw numbers, it’s easy for us to say that the destination was worth the journey."

So, how often do you play? Be honest now.
