Bungie's massively ambitious Destiny will have a little something for everyone.
It's a shooter, yes, but it will also feature more narrative-driven elements for those of us who enjoy stories, we have the option of taking the lone wolf approach or teaming up with others, and there are MMO elements, too. It's a melange of interactive goodness, ideally.
But of course, one of the staples – competitive multiplayer – is going to be a major part of the experience, and the studio calls it a "huge focus." Bungie Community Manager Eric Osborne recently told Eurogamer that although there has been no footage or details just yet, the team is cranking away on ideas:
"Competitive multiplayer is a huge focus for the team. We love it. We play it at launch [sic] weekly. We fight about it. We constantly go back and forth. The perspectives vary wildly inside the studio.
But it's already got to the point where it's really fun and it's really about tweaking and iterating and playing it every day and finding that spot we think is unique but also feels familiar for those who are into competitive multiplayer that's skill-based, 'I'm better than you not necessarily because of the gear I have but because I'm better than you.'"
Osborne didn't confirm the number of players Destiny 's multiplayer would support, but he did say that gamers can't force other players into a Player vs. Player match. Well, that's good news. I'd rather not be out there, doing my own thing, and suddenly being forced into an unwanted combat situation. Just leeme alone; I wanna do the lone wolf thing.
