Spider-Man 2 Won’t Receive a New Update Until Early 2024, Studio Confirms

Those of us eagerly awaiting new content for Spider-Man 2 may need to wait a little longer as Insomniac Games has confirmed there won’t be any update until 2024. The studio cited that whilst they have been hard at work on the features they still require more time to reach the quality and standards set by the studio.

The studio did clarify some of the updates (on Twitter) that would be added in future updates, including the highly anticipated New Game+ mode. Insomniac Games also stated they had been listening to community feedback and as such have been working on other features, including replayable missions, swapping tendril colors as well as the ability to change the time of day.

Spider-Man 2 has been lauded with praise since its release and received plenty of Game of the Year award nominations. In our review, we gave the game a 9.5 out of 10 saying “It’s a quality webslinging experience that everyone should have.”

Are you disappointed about the wait time for new content? Or are you glad to hear the studio isn’t rushing it out before meeting their standards? Let us know in the comments below!

Half Of Sony’s Live Service Games Have Been Delayed

PlayStation

Sony hasn’t been able to really get a foothold on the live service industry, leading to half of the company’s 12 live service games getting delayed. New expectations point to these postponed live service games releasing by 2025.

Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki revealed during a recent earnings call (via VGC) that its live service venture as it wants its games to be “enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time.” Of course, live service games are a difficult beast to nail, as these sorts of games require constant upkeep and updates to keep players invested.

At this time, we don’t know if Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us multiplayer game or Guerrilla Games’ multiplayer Horizon game are part of this whole ordeal, but regardless, we at least know the former is still in development.

“We are reviewing this… we are trying as much as possible to ensure [these games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time. [Of] the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 – that’s our current plan. [As for] the remaining six titles, we are still working on that. That’s the total number of live service and multiplayers titles [and] mid-to-long-term we want to [push] this kind of service and that’s the unchanged policy of the company. It’s not like we stick to certain titles, but game quality should be the most important [thing].”

Payday 3 Patch Delayed Again

Payday 3 developer Starbreeze Studios announced that it’s delaying its next patch from the mid-October release to an undisclosed date. Initially, the patch was slated for October 5, but that never panned out.

Starbreeze revealed the news on Twitter, apologizing for the lack of communication and blaming “some issues that need to be fixed.” In the meantime, micro-patches have happened, like the studio improving its matchmaking, but its AI companions are still a slog, the progression still has issues, and weapons are a touch unbalanced.

Getting this patch out is the team’s “main priority,” according to the post. Meanwhile, other patches are on the horizon, and Syntax Error, the game’s first paid DLC, is heading our way in December.

What do you think? Are you disappointed that the patch was delayed? Let us know below!

XDefiant Slapped With Another Delay

Ubisoft’s upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant, has been slapped with another delay as it aims to hammer out some “inconsistencies in the game experience.” It was previously spotted in the news for failing console certification. This new delay adds salt to the wound for those looking forward to it.

The XDefiant team released a statement on Twitter, spotted by Insider Gaming, announcing the delay without giving us any clue as to a new release date. Of course, we were never properly given a date to look at in the first place, but in a prior blog post about the certification issue, it was thrown out there that the game was hoping for an early to mid-October launch.

It’s possible Ubisoft’s actually playing it safe and taking a chapter from Remedy Entertainment’s book and delaying it out of the way of bigger, more established games like Call of Duty, which releases its next game in a few weeks.

What do you think? Are you excited for this F2P shooter or do you dread how Ubi’s developing it? Let us know below!

Stray Delayed Again, But Not Too Much More

Stray

Announced clear back in June 2020 during The Future of Gaming event, which also led to the PS5 design reveal, Stray picked up plenty of attention by showing off the ability to play as a stray cat in a cyberpunk world. The game looked great on the PS5 gameplay and had our feline hero making their way through complex environments and interacting with human like robots.

Stray had an initial release date of 2021 but was delayed until Spring 2022. Thankfully they gave us another look at the game and, frankly, it looks like the wait may be worth it. Unfortunately, it has been delayed once more. The good news is that it isn’t for very long. This time it’s only been delayed until Summer of 2022. Again, no concrete date yet but it looks like they might be getting closer to finishing up.

The announcement wasn’t really an announcement at all but quietly tucked into a PlayStation tweet alongside a couple other games.

It should be worth it though. Just a year seemed to make a big difference. The footage from 2021 was much more polished and gave us a better idea of the gameplay. A few months shouldn’t be too long. Hopefully, being a cat is just as satisfying as it looks.

Both The Last of Us Part II and Iron Man VR Are Delayed Indefinitely

The Last of Us Part 2

This year has been a pretty rough way to go in several different ways. Add this news to the list I suppose. Despite being very close to being done, The Last of Us Part II and Iron Man VR are being delayed. The Last of Us Part II was slated to come out at the end of May while Iron Man VR was set for the 15th of May. The biggest disappointment is, of course, for The Last of Us. A long time in the making, many fans were looking forward to getting their hands on this game. Especially after already having a couple of other delays.

What makes this delay different is the reason for it. Unlike before, when they needed more time to make the game, this time it is because of the current global events. Naughty Dog also jumped on the platform with a heartfelt announcement of their own.

To take a little bit of the sting out we did get a handful of new screenshots from the game taken from a PS4 Pro. You can check some out below or click here to go and see the rest.

That’s not to say that Iron Man VR won’t be good but it is a new game while The Last of Us already has a big fanbase. As of right now, there is no new date attached to either game and these are just two of several recent delays with, most likely, more to come. Hopefully it won’t be too long though. In the mean time, this would be a good time to replay the first game. Especially if you picked it up back in October for the free PS Plus game.
