Square Enix To Distribute Dead Island In North America

Some years ago, most would've been surprised by this announcement. …but now, it almost makes sense.

Deep Silver and Square Enix have announced their collaboration to distribute Techland's promising action game, Dead Island , in North America. Square Enix has gone out of their way to find projects that appeal to the Western demographic, as most already know, so this fits right in with that business goal. Said Deep Silver Chief Operating Officer Geoff Milligan:

"Square Enix’s impressive distribution and marketing capabilities, combined with their proven success with launching top-notch AAA titles, makes them the absolute best partner for Dead Island. We’re thrilled to be partnering with their dedicated and talented team and look forward to collaborating with them in order to bring Dead Island to gamers."

You can find our in-depth preview of Dead Island here , and don't forget to check out the game's official website . Featuring a blend of first-person action and various role-playing elements, the game utilizes "engaging survival-focused gameplay." Weapons are few and far between and players will have to get creative with everyday items. Plus, we get four unique, customizable character classes and four-player co-op. Said Mike Fischer, Square Enix president and chief executive officer:

"Dead Island is a truly extraordinary title and we couldn’t be more excited about leveraging our unified Square Enix resources in bringing it to audiences in the Americas."

Dead Island is slated to arrive some time this year for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Nail’d Soundtrack Gets Heavy Dose Of Hardcore Metal

There's one thing you always need with high-octane, super-intense racers: a damn good soundtrack.

If you're not familiar with nail'd , it's an ATV racer by Polish developer Techland and set to be published by Deep Silver for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year. Many will say it's a straight-up Pure rip-off, what with it's high-flying tricks and focus on ATVs, but…well, so what? Racers are racers, and there's only so much variety possible in the off-road racing niche. Anyway, along with what we hope is solid and entertaining gameplay, nail'd will boast quite the metal supergroup . It's a who's who of metal bad-assery, including Raymond Herrera and Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Arkaea), Pat Lachman (Damageplan), Wayne Static (Static X), Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed), Stephen Carpenter (Deftones), Jed Simon (Strapping Young Lad), and John Boecklin (DevilDriver). These guys came together to produce 3 dedicated songs for the game: "Count for Something," "Through the Walls of Flame" (vocals by Jasta) and "Decimator" (vocals by Wayne Static). It's really cool to have songs by pros made specifically for a game, and in addition, bands like Slipknot, Aggressive Chill, Backyard Babies, Queens of the Stone Age and more will deliver a hefty punch via musical accompaniment.

So if off-road racing is your bag and you're a hard rock and metal fan, you should have a blast playing nail'd .
