You had to assume the CryEngine 3 would be headed to the PlayStation 4, but it wasn't made official until now.
Developer Crytek has announced that they will support the PS4, and they hope their licensing partners will also take advantage of the nifty new engine. It'll be popular, no doubt. Said Crytek Director of Global Business Development Carl Jones:
"Our CryENGINE technology has always provided head-turning results across platforms. By supporting developers as they build for the future on PlayStation®4, we are cementing our position at the forefront of the industry and helping others to create the best games they can in this exciting period of transition."
CryEngine 3 is currently being used "to develop a diverse range of titles" and it's the first all-in-one development solution that gives game makers awesome graphics and all the necessary tools. Obviously, we'll be seeing this engine used for multiple platforms, as they've already confirmed it'll be available for the Xbox One and Wii U.
