“Emergency Maintenance” Needed For Bloodborne Servers

Looks like developer From Software is scrambling to fix a few serious issues with the Bloodborne servers.

Sony Japan has announced that the game's servers have been taken down for "emergency maintenance." The good news is you can still enjoy the offline adventure.

The bad news is that this maintenance will take "a few days" and they didn't offer any details. That being said, Kotaku believes this happened because of an exploit that supposedly let players unlock the new expansion, The Old Hunters, without paying for it. Then, lead hosting engineer Tim Wernicke offered the following explanation on Reddit :

"We've received some really important feedback about an exploit and serious issues that exist in the game. The game is currently undergoing emergency maintenance, and we're working non-stop to get some things patched and back online. So a huge thank-you to everyone here for the feedback, and please be patient while we work to get things restored.

I apologize that I can't be more specific, but I wanted to let you know that we value your feedback, and what you're doing here is really helping. So, thanks!"

The Old Hunters released on November 24 for the price of $19.99. From Software said they'd let you know when the servers are back online, so be patient!

Bloodborne Update Adds New Covenant And NPC Partners

Update: The English details are now on the PlayStation Blog.

Original Story:

It's not uncommon for a big patch to precede a piece of downloadable content or expansion.

A new update for Bloodborne has been released in preparation for the upcoming add-on, The Old Hunters, which lands on November 24.

Official patch notes haven't been released in English but a few dedicated fans have done some translating at the Bloodborne sub-Reddit page . A post on the Japanese PlayStation Blog says the update comes in at a whopping 9.37GB and introduces a fresh Covenant called The Federation. In the English version of the game, it'll likely be called The League, as previously announced. This feature actually isn't tied to the impending expansion and will be available for all players.

Additionally, the patch adds NPC co-op partners and an ancient summoning bell, which lets you bring these new NPC buddies into Chalice Dungeons. Speaking of Chalice Dungeons, they've been altered so that non-root dungeons have a glyph that creates chances for more co-op and player vs. player gameplay.

The Old Hunters is one of the more anticipated expansions of 2015; we can already hear the loyal fans drooling.

Bloodborne The Old Hunters DLC Details

Last week during the Tokyo Game Show, developer From Software officially announced the date and price of the anticipated Bloodborne expansion, The Old Hunters.

Not long after, GameSpot chatted with series producer Masaaki Yamagiwa, who discussed various details, including the addition of new weapons.

First, Yamagiwa revealed that what we saw at TGS was merely one of the three new stages that will be included in the expansion. Second, he made it plain that while you don't have to have completed the main quest to play The Old Hunters, you can't access the DLC immediately upon starting a new game. You have to at least reach a certain point in the adventure, and then the extra content will become available.

As for the weapons:

"For the most part, the new weapons are weapons that were made after the main game was done and we were ready to work on the DLC. There were a few weapons that were originally going to be in the main game but we weren't able to tweak them up to the level that we wanted to. Once the game was over, we tweaked them and now they appear in the DLC."

All told, if you count both left- and right-handed weapons, Yamagiwa says the expansion will boast "at least 10 new ones" and the final number might be closer to 15. So, excited?

Bloodborne Expansion The Old Hunters Receives Price, Date

Back in May, we heard that an expansion for the acclaimed PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne was in the works .

Now, as announced during the Tokyo Game Show, that expansion is called The Old Hunters and it "tells the story of the legendary hunters" cited in the storyline. Players will enter a "nightmare world where hunters from the past are trapped forever."

This means brand new environments, outfits, weapons, abilities and magic, and the return of familiar bosses like Darkbeast Paarl and Vicar Amelia. One of the new skills is some sort of scream that pushes enemies back, which looks awfully useful. Sony called this a "full-scale download" and it's arriving on November 24; the cost will be $19.99, and that price alone implies a hefty expansion (we hope).

A new version of the game, the Old Hunter Edition, will also land on store shelves on December 5. A new excuse to play one of the best titles of 2015!
