Sony: Bloodborne Sales Have Definitely Eclipsed Expectations

From Software's PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne sold extremely well.

But Sony was a little surprised at the numbers.

As Sony UK Managing Director Fergal Gara told MCV , the well-received Bloodborne surpassed internal expectations:

"It did surprise us. We had expectations to do well. We looked at the Souls series as a frame of reference, and we thought we could do better than that. We did—and then some. Relative to some of our sister territories, we were being quite ambitious, but even that proved to be conservative."

Gara said the solid sales were partly due to good release timing, as not much else launched during Bloodborne 's time frame. And although Sony hasn't yet shared exact statistics, we do know the game sold at least one million copies worldwide; we saw that announcement last month. Chances are, it'll keep selling well for some time.

Have you bought, played and enjoyed the game?

Bloodborne Ships 1 Million, Sony “Thrilled” At Gamers’ Response

We know that Bloodborne was #1 on the PS Store in March .

Now, we find out it has reached a global milestone.

According to Gematsu , From Software's well-received title has shipped over 1 million copies since its release at the end of last month. Sony says the number includes both physical and digital sales and as boss man Shuhei Yoshida said in a statement:

"Bloodborne was a new challenge for us, and our goal was to create a title that took full advantage of the power of PS4. I am thrilled that so many users have been enjoying the extremely rich and detailed world, beautiful melancholic atmosphere, and palpable tension of Bloodborne."

Bloodborne is indeed a fantastic game that is unparalleled when it comes to the thrill of risk vs. reward. Have you enjoyed the challenge yet?

PlayStation Store March Sales: Bloodborne Tops PS4 Chart

Arguably the best game of the generation thus far dropped in March, and gamers everywhere are responding.

If you check the PlayStation Blog , you'll see the top PS4, PS3, and Vita sellers on the PlayStation Store for the month of March.

Despite launching late in the month, From Software's widely acclaimed Bloodborne is #1 on the PS4 list. It even beat out Battlefield: Hardline , which released a week earlier and had the benefit of an established IP. Surgeon Simulator: A&E Anniversary Edition , Helldivers , and Dragon Ball Xenoverse rounded out the top 5 for PS4, while the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection topped the PS3 chart, and Gravity Rush was tops for Vita.

It's kinda sad that a nearly three-year-old game is still atop the Vita list. That's just plain wrong but whatever. The Vita is toast, unfortunately. But hey, we love to see Bloodborne doing so well!

Bloodborne First-Week Sales In Japan Top Demon’s Souls

Bloodborne has received quite the outpouring of acclaim, and that should result in decent sales.

Or perhaps even great sales. We don't have any estimates from other regions just yet, but it seems From Software's new PlayStation 4 exclusive is selling quite well in Japan.

According to Gearnuke , Famitsu claims Bloodborne has sold over 150,000 units since debuting last week. That's far better than Demon's Souls (a PS3 exclusive), which only managed to move 36,000 copies. Both Dark Souls and Dark Souls II outperformed the new IP, but it's important to remember that the PS3's userbase was a lot higher then the PS4's current userbase when those games launched.

It's a very good sign and we're hoping Bloodborne sells well in the US, too. The review scores shouldn't be the only high numbers this title enjoys.
