Batman: Arkham City: 6 Million Shipped

It was one of the best games of 2011, so it rightfully sold a heck of a lot.

During Time Warner's financial report for the year, they announced that the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City has shipped over 6 million units since its October launch.

For the company, Time Warner's Filmed Entertainment branch (which includes game development) enjoyed a 9% rise in revenue to $12.6 billion for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2011. They attributed this increase to a "stronger game release slate" and specifically cited Arkham City , Mortal Kombat , and various LEGO titles. We didn't get specific sales numbers for any title, but according to the NPD, the game was the 7th best selling title in the US in 2011.

We figure the game deserves it.

GameFly’s Most Requested 2011 Title ISN’T Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 can't win everything.

Although it was by far the most popular game of 2011 based on sales numbers, it didn't win the most wanted crown at GameFly.

It has been revealed that Rocksteady's critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City was the game rental service's most requested title in 2011. It topped both the Cross-platform and Xbox 360 list, but couldn't quite beat out Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on the PS3 list. Click through the link above to view all the top 10 lists for each major gaming platform.

Here's the one for the PS3:

Man, why even bother to rent Skyrim ? You know you'll never return it once you start it. Anyway, I'm wondering if GameFly has since added more new copies of the most popular games; when I was a member, it felt like they had three copies of any highly anticipated title. There was just no chance of getting it in the first month of availability. Has that changed?

Thankfully, I get most everything I need from publishers now. 😉

Batcave Coming In Arkham City DLC

You just can't have an authentic Batman experience if the Batcave isn't involved in some capacity. Gotta have it.

A new downloadable pack for Batman: Arkham City has been confirmed ; it'll include the Batcave challenge map along with the previously available Iceberg Lounge and Joker's Carnival maps.

Developer Rocksteady Studios announced it on their Twitter page , so it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on their site for more updates. There's no pricing as of yet, but at least we know the DLC in question will arrive on December 20, just in time for Christmas. So if you still can't get enough of the caped crusader and you've been playing Arkham City ever since the game launched, this extra content is for you. Ardent fans will appreciate it.

Nightwing, Robin Join The Fight To Save Arkham City

Catwoman is great, but there are other fellow heroes in the Batman universe.

We know the Robin Bundle Pack will become available as downloadable content on November 22 for $6.99. But another piece of DLC will hit before that, and it involves another familiar face.

It's Nightwing (aka Dick Grayson), the prodigy who has grown into a young man; he wields awesome Escrima Sticks and beats the tar out of overconfident bad guys. This pack also features two extra challenge maps, Wayne Manor and Main Hall, and an Animated Series Nightwing skin; this add-on content will also cost $6.99. Here's the trailer.

If you've been having fun with one of the year's best, you can't pass up this extra content. Well, you can, especially if you have to shift your attention to one of the many top-tier games hitting store shelves. But few are gonna be significantly better than Arkham City .

Batman Sells 2 Million In First Week

It's easily one of the best games of the year, so it's nice to see it doing so well on the sales charts. It deserves attention.

The critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City sold 2 million copies in its first week of availability, which makes it one of the fastest-selling titles of the year and the generation.

Warner Bros. has shipped 4.6 million copies to stores since the October 18 launch, which means the sequel has a great chance of surpassing its predecessor; Arkham Asylum ended up selling 4.3 million units. We maintain that it's the best superhero game ever (a distinction held by the last title, too) and definitely one you don't want to miss. Thanks to solid marketing and ridiculously high review scores, this is one product that should continue to fly off store shelves.

If you haven't tried it yet, either add it to your holiday wish list or just go snag it.

PSXE Poll Update: Batman Reviews Should Sway Gamers

This past week's poll proved more interesting than initially anticipated.

It was a very even split amongst gamers who said they'd pick up Batman: Arkham City on day one, those who said they'd have to wait for reviews, and those who just said they'd be getting other games. The majority, however, certainly expressed some interest in Rocksteady's latest gem, and the critics have been singing the praises of the Caped Crusader's new adventure. We certainly loved it ; it could just be the front-runner for Game of the Year.

This week, rather than focus on Battlefield 3 – everyone's gonna do that – we thought we'd ask about your PS4 release prediction. The hot rumor is that internal Sony studios are already working on game concepts for the new PlayStation, so maybe it's closer than we all think. So is the end of next year within the realm of possibility? Or is it still a long ways off?
