The Banner Saga Finally Headed To PS4, Xbox One In January

With its striking artistic style and classic adventure/strategy gameplay, this one will be worth checking out.

as announced over at the PlayStation Blog , The Banner Saga will launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 12, 2016.

Originally released for PC and mobile devices, the viking strategy title needed to have redesigned controls for the new consoles. Said Stoic founder and technical director John Watson:

"Porting the game certainly presented technical challenges that we needed to overcome. We have managed to merge the story and gameplay from Banner Saga with a refined controller interface to make it a very enjoyable console gaming experience."

Unfortunately, Watson also confirmed that the Vita version had been put on hold. The good news is that the team is currently working on a sequel, which is slated to release later next year. Perhaps it will debut on multiple platforms this time, including PS4 and Xbox One. You'll want it if you enjoy the original!

Anybody else get a distinct Vandal Hearts vibe with this gameplay?

The Banner Saga May Get Ported To Consoles, Vita In 2014

If you don't want to play it on a mobile device, maybe you should wait.

Developer Stoic Games has revealed that they intend to release their tactical RPG, The Banner Saga , on consoles and even the PlayStation Vita. This would be after the game launches for the iPad, Android and Windows tablets this summer.

During a recent Digital Spy interview with Stoic programmer John Watson, we learn that the team wants to deliver console ports before 2014 is over:

"The ideal would be to get some console ports out before the end of the year. Whether we can make that happen or not, I don't know. Some things are easier than others. I think the game would be great on Vita, but I think that would come after other consoles. It's a path of least resistance thing; there's three of us."

Watson added that he'd rather see the game on the PS4 as opposed to the Vita, because they'd have to make some control changes for it to work well on Sony's portable. The Banner Saga came out for the PC in January, so you can try it if you're so inclined. If not, like I said, wait a bit.
