New Black Flag Screens Show Off The Present-Day Motif

For those who are unfamiliar, the storyline and setting in the Assassin's Creed games can be a little confusing.

Thing is, the real main character has always been Desmond, who exists in the modern day period. He revisits the adventures of his ancestors (thus far, Altair, Ezio and Connor) and obviously, we spend the vast majority of our time playing as those ancestors. But the modern-day era was more prominently featured in ACIII, and we may see more of that in this year's Black Flag .

A batch of new screenshots for the game shows off Abstergo Entertainment, which is a new division of Abstergo Industries. This is the pharmaceutical company that's a front for the seriously bad dudes who are part of the Templars. These are work-in-progress screenshots but you get the idea. Check AllGamesBeta for all the pics; we've got two of 'em right here.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is set to launch for current-generation consoles on October 29. The next-gen versions will arrive when the PS4 and Xbox One hit store shelves. Date TBA…

Five Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Screenshots Leak Out

We'll get the full rundown in a matter of hours but in the meantime, five screenshots from the new Assassin's Creed have been leaked .

You can see two of them here; click through the link to see the others. The new hero's name is Edward Kenway and obviously, there's a pirate theme, too. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will undoubtedly feature naval battles, along with new missions set in "lush, tropical" surroundings, and players will be able to use both swords and pistols. That's nothing new, though.

There was a trailer as well but that has since been removed. I'm sure we'll see it again when it becomes official some time later today. Ubisoft Montreal lead content manager Carsten Myhill said on Twitter that this whole Black Flag issue has been "leakier than the Titanic." Well, that's okay, right?

The game is supposed to launch on October 29 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, although it may also come to the PS4 and Wii U. Can't wait for the unveiling!
