New Assassin’s Creed Title Leaked

Yesterday, we got a peek at a new teaser image for this year's Assassin's Creed adventure.

We know the official unveiling is set for 9 a.m. PST on May 12 but it seems we already have the actual title: According to Polygon citing leaked promotional material, it's Assassin's Creed: Syndicate .

Furthermore, the name of the protagonist is Jacob Frye, and it seems plain now that the previously rumored setting of Victorian Era London is correct. The leaked promo stuff says the game will "transport millions of gamers to an astonishing recreation of London during the Industrial Revolution where they will find themselves immersed in a game world they'll have to see to believe." Last year's Assassin's Creed Unity delivered us to Paris during the time of the French Revolution.

Excited to hear more about Syndicate ? What do you want to see from this year's AC entry?

Ubisoft: No, Assassin’s Creed V Won’t Be In Fedual Japan

Where will we go in the next Assassin's Creed ?

We've already visited several amazing time periods, including the Crusades, the Italian Renaissance, the American Revolution, and the Golden Age of Pirates. But history is full of intriguing eras, so Ubisoft has plenty of options for the fifth entry.

Recently, it was rumored that ACV would take place in feudal Japan, a rumor we've heard before. It's not a bad idea, although I'd prefer medieval Europe. But it doesn't look like a Japanese theme is going to happen, as Ubisoft Toronto Managing Director Jade Raymond told AdWeek . When asked about her favorite historical period, Raymond refused to answer because it would "ruin the surprise" for the next game.

Then she said that while feudal Japan is a good idea, that's not where we're headed in the fifth installment. Said Raymond:

"When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV. If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius."

You should ignore those fake images that have popped up around the Internet, supposedly proving that ACV will be called "Great Fall." Those really don't hold any water. As for the next setting, I don't really care, because I'm sure it'll be very interesting.

Feudal Japan One Of Many Possibilities For Next Assassin’s Creed

The environment and atmosphere is what makes each Assassin's Creed installment special. That background is absolutely critical.

So, where are we going next? We've been to Constantinople in the Middle Ages, Italy during the Renaissance (still my personal favorite), America during the Revolutionary War, and the South Seas during the golden age of pirates. How's about feudal Japan as the next era…?

Ubisoft still says it's a possibility. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon told VG24/7 that feudal Japan is one of the many time periods and locations the team is considering for the future. However, Guesdon added that "the entire human history is our playground," which really means they can focus on anywhere and anything. That's the cool part about this series, by the way.

Fans have also requested ancient Egypt, World War II and the British Raj (colonial India). I still want to go to Europe during medieval times; you know, when the Knights of the Round Table were in existence and all that. Considering that we start to hear about Templar lore right around that time, it would also fit in with the franchise's ongoing underlying plot.

Where do you want to go?

Rumor: Two Assassin’s Creed Projects In The Works For 2014

Some avid fans wouldn't have minded if the vaunted Assassin's Creed franchise took a year off in 2014. I wouldn't.

But according to the latest rumor , Ubisoft has not one, but two separate AC installments slated to release next year.

One is in development exclusively for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U while the other is being made only for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On top of which, the source in question said the franchise is undergoing a "massive re-scope," whatever that means. The latest entry, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag , was critically acclaimed despite representing a significant departure from the tone and structure of past installments. So, what "re-scope" might they be referring to…? They better keep the core of the series alive.

It's not a bad idea to create two separate games for the new and "old" systems, though. I put "old" in quotations because only in the electronics industry does something new come out and a few weeks later, the previous models are suddenly "old."
