A conflicted protagonist that operates within a moral gray area is always intriguing.
Ubisoft's upcoming high-tech open-world action game, Watch Dogs , features just such a protagonist. Aiden Pearce is neither wholly good nor is he overtly evil, as senior producer Dominic Guay explained during a new ZoomIn Games interview.
Guay said Pearce isn't necessarily "a good guy or a bad guy," because he's essentially a vigilante. In other words, it's justice, but his own brand of justice. As for inspiration, we learn that the development team was inspired by TV shows like "Dexter" "Breaking Bad," because guys like Walter White are similar in terms of character construction. Let's say they have "issues."
"We're inspired by characters like Dexter or the series like Breaking Bad, where the main character is not necessarily a good guy, but he's a person with flaws, with qualities; someone we can relate to and that you will bond with even though he does sometimes things that are not necessarily good."
There will be some choice involved, though, so players may have an impact on Aiden's personality and moral growth throughout the adventure. This could end up being one of the very best titles of 2013, and we can't wait to give it a try. Watch Dogs will release for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on November 19, and it will be a launch title for the PS4 and Xbox One.
