“They Were Really Cool” Abandoned Dev On Reaching Out To Konami

Abandoned

While plenty of people have long-since come to the conclusion that Blue Box Game Studios’ Abandoned has been well… abandoned, Blue Box founder, Hasan Kahraman, took to Colin Moriarty’s PlayStation-centered podcast, Sacred Symbols+ (via VGC), to discuss his experience communicating with Silent Hill publisher, Konami, during the height of conspiracy theories that his game was affiliated to the Konami property.

According to him, they seemed “really cool” after he emailed them about the whole ordeal.

“I reached out to them, I was stressed out because people thought it was Silent Hill. It got so out of hand, and you know, you’re this small developer, you’ve never had a big audience, you’re inexperienced. I reached out to Konami saying like, ‘Hey you know what, it was never my intention’ and they were really cool.”

For the longest time, it was speculated that Abandoned was an elaborate ruse and was spearheaded by Hideo Kojima. It wasn’t until June 2021 that Kahraman cleared the air and appeared on video. It also seems he is still adamant about the game’s release.

The public still has very little go off of and if it does see the light of day, we can’t imagine outlets will let Blue Box forget their history and prompting an unsavory stigma surrounding the studio.

Abandoned Devs Delete Demo Tweets

Abandoned

Well, Blue Box Game Studios is once again circulating its name in the bizarre pool of the news cycle. On Thursday, streamer Lance McDonald noticed that the studio started deleting tweets discussing the future of their yet-to-be released PS5 exclusive horror game, Abandoned, in more detail.

Jump forward a bit and Blue Box has responded, asserting that the project is still alive and kicking, but isn’t quite ready yet and that they’re only going to launch Abandoned: Prologue when it’s ready to go. If this were any other dev, it could read as a developer taking to heart the mistake that CD Projekt Red found themselves in with Cyberpunk 2077. In the case of Blue Box, however, they’ve shown little to no actual progress in developing the title.

Even their Real-Time Experience teaser never really showed fans anything new and all people got was a five-second clip that the studio previously published on social media. They hid behind supposed technical difficulties when called out. Now’s a good time to mention how they do have a sour history dating all the way back to 2015 of announcing games, collecting crowd-funding, and abandoning them without ever releasing the game.

Abandoned Prologue Chapter Coming Next Year

Abandoned

As we rare up to get ready for the esteemed — yet meme-worthy — The Game Awards, it seems something could fall under the radar if it weren’t for the conspiracy behind it. The indie Blue Box Game Studios title, Abandoned, seems to be back on playable track for early next year.

On the PS5’s news section, you can find an update on the title where the studio announces a window we can hopefully expect the PS5 exclusive’s prologue chapter to release.

“We are excited to announce that the Prologue chapter releases Q1 2022. A specific date will be announced shortly. Stay tuned!”

Blue Box Game Studios is still under intense watch after its intensely delayed experience app currently features only a small teaser of in-engine footage. While it’s not confirmed, it’s expected that this Abandoned prologue chapter will act as some sort of demo before its full release.

Coupled with the conspiracy that Abandoned is some sort of Hideo Kojima project, this game sees a lot of eyes on it. dIt’s certainly a good thing that Blue Box didn’t get peoples’ hopes up by concretely announcing a date, considering how off-putting development has gone thus far for the mysterious indie title.
